How to clean ear plugs?

Using soap and water just makes them crumble, but they itch after a while if I don't clean off whatever gunk accumulates onto them. Any suggestions?

If they are the foam type, theyre not intended for repeated use. Ie: theyre disposable.

They make a rubbery type one thats reusable & easy to clean.
