I have been pronouncing it "bathroom" for as long as I can remember. I may have pronounced it "baffroom" at one time, but then I moved up to first grade.

Why so many forums on how we pronounce things? Why is it such a big deal?

I have never heard "bathroom" pronounced that way.

Aussie pronounciation: barthroom.

So, no, I don't say baffroom.

Yes, we have a tendency in our local dialect to pronounce /ϴ/ as /f/, especially when speaking quickly.

I always hear the F sound when people say words with a TH. Are people supposed to pronounce it like bat-Ha-room. Otherwise I think TH is supposed to make an F sound.

WTF are you talking about?

Its a compound word. Bath+ room. So its supposed to be pronounced "bathroom" : ba+[th sound]+room. Not "bat-HA-room". What you're saying is bat-HA-shit crazy. :lol:

My dad, who is as Nova Scotian as they come, pronounces it "bat-room" because he pronounces the "th" sound to many words like the letter T.

Batman would think my dad was being a smart alec and not be impressed. :batman:

In Canada we also call it the restroom or washroom. I think washroom makes more sense if it's a public room and there are no bathtubs, but there are sinks.
