What's with catsup? I've seen aisle signs in grocery stores before where they refer to ketchup as catsup.

^^ I used to live in the U.K.----IIRC, I think what you all call "tomato sauce", is our "ketchup"; but, your sauce is much, MUCH thinner----basically, tomato / vinegar "water", to me.

In response to the OP: I think it's just one of those words that have morphed, over time----morphed FROM "catsup", to "ketchup". Because of my age, I can remember when it was regularly called "catsup"----now, it's pretty rare to hear that pronunciation.

I live in "the other parts of the world", and in my country, we've never heard of "catsup".

We have many types of ketchup though (chilli, chipottle etc)

"catsup" sounds like there's a cat on the ceiling.

I thought ketchup & catsup were slightly different things & Mr. Burns on the Simpsons had that problem
