Very rare in the early 70's for a progressive rock band to be fronted by a women. That is probably why they were mostly unknown in America :(

A bit of a blast from the past, that.
When I was at university in the 70s everyone was absolutely nuts about them... all the guys had a poster of Sonja Kristina (and all the women had a poster of Cat Stephens). I spent most of my grant playing Backstreet Luv on the jukebox.
Thanks for bringing that one up, brilliant.

There was Jefferson Airplane! But yes, it was relatively rare for a woman to front a band like this.

I LOVED "Backstreet Luv" when it was being played on the radio in the UK in 1971. I was just a kid but I liked the mysterious vibe of that song.

It's the only one I know by this band! Never forgot it though; thanks for posting the video, a blast from the past.

Trivia: Drummer for The Police, Stewart Copeland, was briefly a member of Curved Air and went on to marry Sonja Kristina!

I only found out about them when youtubeing progressive rock acts. I do not remember hearing them at the time and British Progressive rock bands such as Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Jethro Tull many other were massively popular at the time in the states. Even today they are ignored by American "Classic Rock" radio.

Yes, I don't think Curved Air get played on UK classic rock stations either -- I never ever heard "Backstreet Luv" again after the year it was played a lot, which is really strange.

For me remembering hearing it as a child, it was one of those songs that I never heard again and became a memory in my mind that I would wonder about every so often, for years after.

I have only a very vague memory of a song called "Backstreet Luv," but never heard of the band Curved Air, and I listen to a lot of different music.

I LOVE Curved Air. They were more "prog-lite" IMO, most tracks suitable for radio airplay like ELO.
