Today is National Kindness Day!
I have already received a kindness today. I took out the garbage at 1 a.m. and fell coming back. I couldn't get up, or at least, not all the way up. Half an hour later, along came the only person left on earth (it seemed), to whom I said, "Help." He was everything a superhero should be: tall, handsome, strong, and thoroughly trained in lifting people off the sidewalk and putting them back into their apartment. He used that gentle wrap-around fully-supportive medical hug that controls every part of the body except movement. He had the jolly manner too, so I got over my fear and walked.
There are people who, if confused and upset, can't unlock their own door. He stayed. It's tricky but he figured it out and got me into the lobby. Then I was okay; I live on the ground floor. He kept asking if I was good, was I sure I was good? And I reassured him that I was very good. And then I pointed at him and said, "YOU are good!!" And we laughed merrily and said goodnight.
I wonder if I will find kindness to do today?
Did you?
