I was raised to see casinos as evil places for stupid people but I've always thought it'd be fun to just take $100 (tell myself that's ALL I'm going to spend) and spend the day there and see what I come out with. Do you guys think that's a good idea? I would probably have to spend all day on the slot machines since I suck at card games like poker. I just don't have the ability to bluff and count cards and things like that. What are your guys' experiences with casinos?

Well, casinos have a profit margin of about 10%, so that means if you go in with $100, you'll generally come out with $90.

Alternatively, I'd recommend you put your money in my private investment fund, which has a guaranteed return of 50% -- you give me your money, and I guarantee I'll return 50% of it.

If you are going to play the slot machines, supposedly the best thing is to play the machines alongside the crowds. The casinos can apparently set the odds of winning on the machines as they see fit and will give the machines closest to the crowds better odds to create more noise and flashing lights to attract more people to play them.

And make sure that the floor managers know how much you are spending. They can give you vouchers that you can use for things like meals. If you include the value of the vouchers, you have a better chance of breaking even.

Umm... I've been in casinos. When I was working overseas, my employer held meetings in places like Deauville. A trip to the casino was always on the itinerary, God alone knows why.

The noise and cigarette smoke and blaring music and lights drove me nearly insane. I kind of thought this was a standard risk for Aspies... have you ever been in a casino? Will you be OK with that?

My mother and I sometimes go to the restaurant at the casino, but we never play their games. My parents don't really gamble except when they play poker with their friends, and that's only for a few coins. There is absolutely nothing about casino or gambling in general that appeals to me.

I've seen those horrible "ask your doctor" ads where s few said one of the side effects of whatever drug they were pushing in our face was an increased urge to gamble, or becoming addicted to gambling. What the hey? You mean people can swallow these pills and then suddenly they're at the casino blowing away their kids' college money? 8O

Yeah...nope.

I don't get the thrill out of gambling, especially where I know the deck is stacked against winning, and I can't do the lights and noise of sports bars (unless I'm going alone, in order to "stim-out"!) Also grew up close enough to Atlantic City to see the harm casinos do to a city, so can't morally justified feeding the beast.

Never been to a casino, however I enjoy the odd low-money bet.

I don't really gamble at casinos. The last time I spent $50 at a casino was over 9 years ago. I have gambled on the stock market, though.

Anyways, my brothers and parents gamble at casinos sometimes. One brother is definitely down money over the years because he's not nearly as good a gambler as he wishes he was. My parents are near even, maybe up a bit - they play vert small stakes for fun. My other brother is up significantly because he plays a consistent game of blackjack with tight self control, usually.

As for your plan, if it's just straight up games of chance like slot machines vs. games of some mathematical skill, then you've got to accept that the statistical probability of you coming out a winner is quite low and that you're likely to spend your $100 before you leave.

Granted, one time when I was waiting for a seat at a blackjack table I put 75 cents in a slot machine, won $150, and quit for the night.. so, it does happen.

And one night last week, with a live guessing game at a new casino, my brother witnessed someone guess ten correct answers in a row to win $2 Million on the spot. True story.

So, yeah, if you accept that you're likely to spend $100 and you're okay with that for the entertainment value and the ambiance and chance to possibly witness some others' high stakes excitement, then go spend your time & money how you see fit. It's a hundred dollar night out for once in your life, not a thousand dollar a day gambling habit until you lose your house. Just do it, have your fun. 8)

Yep, I`m a hardcore gambler. I have been joining many casinos throughout the years I played. It was in an instance for more than 10 years. The situations were different. I have a lot of bad experiences. Sometimes I can`t get my withdrawal and casino banned my account. So, I`m here recommended you test the casino before playing, not complain and regret about some situations that can be.

I have only played the slot machines and I get bored pretty quickly. Also, casinos are problematic for my sensory problems.

I hate them for many reasons, but mostly for the floor to ceiling visual sensory overload (loud gaudy carpet designs), cigarette smoke (casinos are the last legal establishment for people to smoke in in my state) and auditory overload. I've known many people through the years that say they win more than they lose. I've also known many who say they only spend "X" amount and that's it. In my experience they're often fibbing. I've also known people who were gambling addicts. One embezzled to feed her habit and was arrested. Her husband didn't even know how bad her addiction was and they lost their house because of her. Another would spend her paycheck the same day and then hit up anyone she could for money to keep playing machines.

Personally I've always felt that I've worked too hard for the money I've earned to have a desire to throw it away that way.

Casino's and online gambling apps maintain their profit margin on problem gamblers with addiction problems.

Las vegas casinos were founded by the mafia and nowadays the biggest high rollers are flown in from east Asia using "snake heads" or triad gangs posing as middle men to recruit wealthy gamblers.

In addition to recruitment the Snake heads also collect bad debts on behalf of the casino bosses. Their methods don't need explanation.

When I visited Las Vegas, I enjoyed looking at all the lavish decor in the casinos, but I didn't like to stay in them too long because the bells and flashing lights really got on my nerves. Also I really don't care for gambling much.

In the long run "the house" ALWAYS wins (ie comes out ahead of you and you loose money). Otherwise they couldnt stay in business.

But sure. It's harmless fun. Zillions of folks think its fun to loose a few bucks on the horses and the slots at Atlantic City/Vegas/Charleston. Long as you dont get addicted to it why not?

In your case it sounds like the old "forbidden fruit" thing. Your family drums it into your head that X is sinful and stupid, so it makes trying X enticing.

No one in my family ever talked about gambling. No one was into it, but no one was opposed to it either. So I had a rather neutral attitude to it. So I never got around to going to Altantic City or Vegas. Coworkers at my job were all shocked and dismayed that I "never went to Atlantic city, are you CRAZY!".

I did finnally did go to Charleston a few years ago with my gf because her aging and ailing mom was always into that and we wanted to treat to her to one last trip. I came out a couple dollars ahead between the slots and the horses. It was fun. But havnt returned.

My mom worked for a family owned store chain, and she talked about how the father and son partners who ran the chain would talk about their trips to Atlantic city. Mom theorized that recreational gambling was something that entrepreneural types were drawn to because "its good training to steel your nerves for risk taking". An interesting hypothesis.

Most of the games at casinos are 100 percent chance, but blackjack does have a TINY element of skill- if you can count cards. A tiny circa one percent edge. And in theory you could expand that edge if you have secret confederates. A group of math nerds at MIT (some probably were aspies) formed club to do just that: learn to count cards, and to secretly signal to each other when it was the right moment to make bets at the black jack table. A real life Oceans Eleven scheme. They made money for a good long run before they finally got caught. The story was made into a book, and later a minor movie, both called "21" (the later starring John Cusack).

So...learn to count cards, and you might make some bucks...until a casino catches you and takes you into the backroom and breaks your kneecaps! Lol!

Otherwise, just settle for buying lotto tickest at the corner convenience store. You may not come out ahead doing that either but at least when you loose money on state lottery tickets you're helping to pay for the state filling the potholes in the road or whatever.
