I strongly support our police force and find anti-police rhetoric profoundly irritating, but admittedly I am slightly wary. I put it down to having had bad experiences with some authority figures as a result of autistic behaviour being misunderstood - not policemen or policewomen, but people in similar roles like security personnel.

Generally what I do if I pass a police officer is smile or nod at them, and the vast majority of times they will smile back (which helps to ease my worry considerably). I usually smile at or make eye contact with strangers of all kinds, not just law enforcement - partly because it breaks the ice (so to speak), but also because the culture I grew up in is relatively friendly and this behaviour is looked upon as the norm.

Admittedly, yes. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any unpaid tickets or arrest warrants, but they scare the crap out of me for some reason... Even when I was to young to know what a cop really was. I remember being around 2 years old sitting in the back of the car when my mom, grandmother and I got pulled over. The police officer came to the drivers window, saw me and waved, and I went into meltdown mode. Now-a-days whenever I have to talk to a cop I'm sure I must look something akin to this: 8O

I'm a bit leery of them.

I'm not scared of them unless they're acting mean or something towards me which never happens

No, I'm scared of criminals and that the cops won't arrive in time to save me from them. 8O

Personally, I hadn't any bad experience with them, but I also know I'm in a very privileged position in this matter: I'm a white woman, middle class etc. Still, I'm afraid of them. Our police is militarized, and we had a recent military dictatorship. ~20% of homicides are committed by policeman, and in some places it reach as high as 40%.

Nope, which is a good thing, because now I work at a sheriff training center (as a janitor), and I didn't find out where I'd be working until I already had the job.

Yes I am. They lie and outright accuse you of things. Some of them look crazy and are very angry from the very beginning.

No I am not afraid. I do however have quite a passionate hate for the police in my country.

I'm not a minority race in America so I have no reason to fear them

Police offices are people and people come in all varieties. I have no time for those rear young smarts arses, but I have all the time in the world for most others.
