#2. I think your father was born earlier in the 1930s.

#2 is indeed my lie. He wasn't even born in July.

1. My great grandfather emigrated to a new country and built a house for his wife, but she refused to stay.

2. My great grandmother was tiny, strict, Spanish, and obsessed with cats. She reportedly have four.

3. My great uncle died from measles, contracted when he served in WW1. He returned home before passing.

2 is my lie. My GG did have some Spanish ancestry which I don't know how to trace, but I don't know if she was obsessed with cats. She was reportedly VERY tiny and very strict though.

Regarding 3, he died either from measles or scarlet fever, or one of those illnesses. I can't remember unless I go through my ancestry notes ... but it's true enough. Wait - this was my great grandfather's brother. Is great uncle the right term?

I bet you it was Influenza. Millions of people around the world, some say 50 million, died of Influenza right after World War One. Including 500,000 in the United States.

My grandfather probably was born around the same year as your great-grandfather. He was born in 1900.


1. I never knew my maternal grandfather.

2. I knew my great-grandfather on my father's side.

3. My grandfather's brother passed away when I was about 3 months old.

My great grandfather (one of them, anyway) was born in 1875 in Worcester. I'm looking at his papers now on Ancestry.

Yep. Absolutely correct. All my great-grandparents died well before I was born. One of my grandfathers also died 15 years before I was born.

My last surviving grandmother died almost 26 years ago---in October, 1993.

I'm still looking at Ancestry papers.

1. Common names for the women were Ellen, Emma, and Emily.

2. Common names for the men were Nathan, Norman and Peter.

3. Common trades were weaving, wool-combing and blacksmithing.

I'm thinking #2.

Incidentally I just saw my somewhat-Spanish GG's grave on the Find a Grave website. She died in 1951.
