I have been an avid student of birds all my life. The latest ornithological milestone apparently is the conclusive finding that birds do not fart. This is due to the shortness and high activity of their digestive tract. Moreover, it should not be overlooked that most birds are extremely active and eat a diet high in fiber. Possibly there is a lesson in this for all of us, but if there is, I cannot see it. Can you?

Perhaps we should adopt their policy of "bombs away?"

I read somewhere that birds lack a sphincter, so shouldn't an inability to fart follow from that?

constant venting of gasses prevent the buildup and flatulent release that a sphincter allows for.

Birds and humans are two very different species so its not surprising our digestive systems are very different, too. Hummingbirds are constantly drinking sugar water to give them the energy to beat their wings so fast. If we drank as much of it as they did our pancreases would probably explode.

I don't suppose they need the extra propulsive energy that a phart might provide.

I've heard that buzzards are the only kind of birds that can fart. Maybe because they're carrion-eaters while other birds aren't?

Avian Flatus sounds like ... if Weird Al Yankovic and Frank Zappa had ever had a band together.

And "Do Birds Burp?" sounds like the title of their first album.

Calvin and Hobbes were once sitting under a tree, quietly and deeply thinking, as usual. And then Calvin said, "When birds burp, it must take like bugs". Hobbes was not shown in the final panel, implying he had left in disgust.

Most delicious of all is the DUCK FART, which is a layered shooter of equal parts Kahlua, Bailey's, and Crown Royal. Can I say that on this subforum? :silent:

I fed my chickens dry pinto beans once, and the definately farted. Wet farts. I had to stay clear of their pen until they worked it out of their systems.
