People in Third World Countries usually do quite well, and adjust well to their environment. They also usually have an excellent sense of humor about their situation.

Most people in these countries don't want to be pitied.

I wouldn't be able to handle what they handle; then again, I've never really been in that situation.

My "First World Problem": I get frustrated when my train is 5 minutes late LOL

Very good point... but I can't help but feel disgusted whenever I hear about the terrible things that countries like ours do to their countries. It's just wrong and shouldn't be that way! :(

And I really don't understand why people hate pity. When somebody feels pity towards you it means they have empathy and compassion and want to help. Saying you hate pity is basically like saying you'd rather hang around a bunch of abusive narcissists who don't give a damn about any pain they cause you.

That's just my opinion. :?

People do not like to be pitied. They really don't.

Never tell someone you "pity" them. You might get a punch in the face for that. No kidding.

It's a matter of pride. It's a matter of conveying to others that they don't need help. That they can handle things.

Well I think we all need help in this world. If we could swallow our pride and learn to accept help or offer help to people I think that the world would be a MUCH better place.

No wonder pride is considered a deadly sin...

I hate pity.
It makes me feel ten thousand times worse.
You can be compassionate without pitying someone.

Frankly I think it's all the same. There shouldn't be anything wrong with showing concern for another human being.

I mean I understand why it's hurtful to call attention to their situation but if a person really needs help they should accept it and not think of it as an insult.

There's too many selfish and cynical people in this world who don't care about their fellow human beings and I hate it.
