Here in NYC they're called Duane Reade, which are a couple of streets down in the Wall Street area. And the walls here are kinda lavender/purple in color (at least some of them) I used to use Rite Aid, but they've kind of disappeared, so now I use DR/Wallgreens as my pharmacy for my medications.

Our RiteAid is becoming a Walgreens. Last year we quit being able to request med refills online cuz of the transition process.. They're pharmacy department has been screwing up a lot lately but it started before their transition process. We should switch but are on waiting lists for new apartments so we figure we'll do it after we move.

It used to seem like that Wahlgreens owned the western half of the US, and CVS the east. You never saw Wahlgreens east of Chicago. But lately they've moved east.

But apparently they always been in South Florida. When you drive through Dade, or Broward County ( Miami, and Lauderdale), its CVS_Wahlgreens, CVS, Wahlgreens,... they alternate as you drive down the road(one then the other)like a drumbeat.

We recently got a CVS & it's very close to our RiteAid, like a couple stores down.

I don't think we have Walgreens in Canada. But I never assumed their walls were green which was how the store got its name.

We used to have Zellers, and one time when I was a kid their slogan was "Everything starts with Z". But they didn't have much of anything that started with Z. Maybe a toy zebra. And their mascot, Zeddy Bear.

My local Rite Aid just reopened after 1.5 years or something as a CVS, it's less than 2 blocks from the Duane Reade/Wallgreens.

At around the time that Sam Walton started Wal-Mart he started a vegetable stand called Wal-Greens. One of the greens sold was coca leaves (which is used to make cocaine). Then cannabis was added. Eventually the vegetable stand became a drug store, but retained the name Walgreens. And now you know the rest of the story.

I find bare white walls to be painful to look at. It makes the room look about as friendly and pleasant as the mental ward at the hospital I've had to stay in. Apparently they can't even put some nice-looking pictures up because some of the patients will think they're whispering murderous threats to them or something.
