what's the differenve between outbox and sent messages?

Hi there, quick question,
I'm sending a survey to individual people to increase the chances of it being seen, b u t I noticed that I have 8 outbox messages and less sent messages, can someone tell me what exactly does it mean when my sent messages go straight to outbox.

Is it that these people do not accept PMs
or is it that I'm automatically blocked by some people (even new people)
is it that I'm doing something wrong?
or should I just wait, will it eventually go to sent messages?

It's so strange, I don't know what this means, this has never happened to me before.
Does anyone know?

Offhand, I think that the difference is that when a message is in Outbox it is waiting to be sent, whereas in Sent the message has been sent. For example if your internet connection is down it would go into Outbox and then when the connection came back up, the message would be sent.
