Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans on the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence!

It's been a tradition across America from the time of the Founding to read the Declaration of Independence aloud in public every Independence Day, so all across the country today, from the front steps of thousands of town halls or at 4th of July parades, the Declaration is being read aloud. You can participate wherever you are around the world -- here's an abridged version, suitable for television, from the the "John Adams" series:

And as we all know, when the Continental Congress was debating the final text of the Declaration of Independence just before voting on its adoption, Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin were off attending to truly important business, to wit, selecting an appropriate National Bird. :mrgreen:
