It's a word that I've heard associated with Survivor, a show I don't watch and wouldn't understand because of its social complexities.
I strike this out because I shouldn't admit to such political naiveté, but I think an alliance is when two parties work together. If the election is really this close, I'd want to work with the other candidates like a team. To be honest, I'd do that regardless with all the other candidates, because I'm not into being a dictator .... but we've already had that conversation, and you advised me not to admit this aloud ... Benevolent yes. Dictator no.
