I visited an old military fort here in Pensacola, Florida called Fort Pickens. Geronimo was once held prisoner there.

never been to Europe. So Ive never been to a castle. Not even a bogus castle like they have in Disneyland.

Only been to countries in North America, and the Caribean. So no real castle. Though I have walked around the ruins of Uxmal, Chichen Itza, and Teotiohuacan in Mexico. One of the pyramids was named "el CastilLo" (the castle) by the conquistadors.

Have driven past the reservoir in DC that was built by the Corp of Engineers, and has a building built to look like their emblem, which is a castle. So we have a cute goofy looking little castle that houses pumping equipment for water here in DC. We also have the oldest two Smithsonian museums which also are built to look like castles.

Have been to Fort Ticondoroga, in Vermont, and to a couple of the 30 civil war forts that at one time formed a ring around the nation's capital city. Fort Foote still h as the old "soda bottle" civil war era cannons lying around.

I can't say I've ever "been to" a castle. But while cycling along the Rhine Dam in Eastern Switzerland I saw the castle where the Prince of Liechtenstein resides across the river.

I went to Hearst Castle in California when I was really young, but I don't know if that counts as a "castle" or just a really big house.

Don't have the quantity of norman castles here that ye do in Wales, would like to do a tour of them some day.
I've visited too many to mention.
Perhaps a favourite ruin...

We have many here in Wales. South Wales and Noth Wales are areas to head for for decent castles. Anyone wants more details...
The eastern part of South Wales are Chepstow, Caerphilly, Castell Coch, Cardiff Castle etc...
The middle parts of South Wales.. Examples are Woebley, Kidwelly, Llanstephan (f), Laugharne, Drysllwyn (f), Dinevwr, Carreg Cennen (Children need to be on a lead or have their hands held for Carreg Cennen. Sheer unguarded and unfenced drop) are a few examples.
south West Wales. Pembroke (You have to see Pembroke!), Carew, Manorbier, Llawaden (f), Kilgerran (Sometimes spelt Cilgerran), are all nice castles worth the visit.

North Wales. Caernarfon (Another must see!), Conwy, Harlech, Criccieth... And many more!

(f) = free entry.

I'll indulge an interest here, as a child Grace/Granuaile O’ Malley fascinated me.
This is her family tower house Granuaile's Castle, Clare Island Image

Another family stronghold Carrickkildavnet Castle, Achill Island

And this is the one she obtained from her ex husband, Carrickahowley Castle, Clew Bay.
