There are some old mine shafts up the road from me,zinc was big here for awhile. Also saltpeter was found in some of the caves and used in the Civil war.

Pembroke castle in Wales and Corfe Castle in Dorset (England)

I love the distant view of Corfe Castle. Never been in it though. Only once seen it? Is it in the Devon/Cornwall area? If it is I have seen it while out driving. Only twice been down that area.

Pembroke Castle. Did you go down the 101 (May have been more) steps to see the cave? Were you brave enough to go up to the top of the big tower? (I never have been up there as when I try I get so far up and chicken out! Is soo high! Those areas looking down from the inside are enough to make me turn around!)

I'm forgetting Scarborough Castle. I should have been going there tomorrow but had to cancel. It's on top of a headland between two bays... very impressive.

Not a castle as such, but I went here the same day I went to the quarry and turlough. It is called Paxtons Tower or Paxtons Folly. From there you can see three castles. One is not that far away.

Oh yeah, there a bronze-age fortification in a nature preserve nearby. Looks something like this:

The nearest town to the village where i grew up has a castle, heres some pictures of it. In richmond north yorkshire.
As a teenager we used to get drunk in it all the time. It was built a 5 years after the norman conquest (1066)
We have a lot of history in the area, my village was a roman fort and the area was occupied by vikings for a long time meaning we still have many viking words in our old dialect, which most people elsewhere have no idea about.
My nanna lives in york too which is pretty famous. i go there regularly.
Im only 45 minutes south of hadrians wall too which is pretty cool.
weirdly though, living around them you find you rarely take photos of them
Lets hope i can get these in the right order.
1. A castle in belfast i think, i spent a bit of time in ireland but tbh i was very busy to take it all in
Image
2. Edinburgh, i used to work up there a lot.
Image
3. A castle near bad durkheim in germany. absolutely amazing place. Got lost while i was driving there so i decided to wander around for a bit enjoying myself
Image
4. A random street in Richmond, its all hills! you can see a bit of the castle
Image
5. A view from inside the castle in richmond
Image
6. A picture ive found online (not by me), showing richmond castle from the river...i really need to take some photos when im there next lol

Nice. I only remember going i to one castle in England. I have only been in England a few times. The castle was round. It was basically a large round circle of a castle. One circular wall which was... Ummm. Like a circle! I think it was somewhere isn South West England somehwere.

The castle is not hooked up for electricity, sewer or water service. It is zoned for park use, not as a residence. No additions can be made to the property, and the city can condemn the land if the building is extensively damaged.

I've never been to a real castle. There's this fortress that's a historical landmark where I live that I've been to a number of times, but it doesn't really count imo.

I thought this was going to be a thread about that hideous song 'castles' sung by Freya Ridings that gets stuck in my head so badly that it causes me headaches and insomnia.
