I think I may be getting close to not being a 'bird' anymore. Although nothing has been as bad as being a "Tufted Titmouse," I have to resit the urge to stay on here all day posting. Certain stupid things annoy me, I don't know why. :|

I did not even notice. Your presence speaks louder than your post count. I am glad you are here. Btw do you need me to provide you with a fresh sheet of newspaper?

The Tufted Titmice of the world feel a bit insulted. :(

^ That's a cute little bird. It's too bad these days the very mention of its name makes people (usually) temporarily lose their maturity.

You're not a bird anymore but a birdlike dinosaur.

Thus, going backwards on the evolutionary scale! :D

I said before that at least I was grateful I wasn't a Blue Footed Boobie. I think it's because it marks me as an 'outsider' in a group of outsiders. So, I'm a twice outsider and that's no place to be. I want to be an insider outsider. I'm closer everyday and yes, Ezra. I need a change of newspaper, preferably the comics section, as the color appeals to my discerning taste.

I'd love to have been a Wandering Albatross but that doesn't seem to be an option.

It was a bit annoying being a seagull. A gull would have been fine but not a seagull.

I was into birdwatching since gradeschool.

Always thought of titmice as being cute adorable birds.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

I don't get it.

Whats wrong with adding "sea" to "gull"?

There is a family of birds called gulls. There is no family of birds called seagulls. Most species of gull (more than 50 worldwide) aren't even exclusively marine species except for the kittiwakes. Many spend much of their lives inland. The term seagull is largely meaningless.

Sorry, that comes across as a bit of a rant. If you want to add "sea" to "gull" please feel free. It's just one of those things that annoys me personally as it is meaningless. I'm probably guilty of using terms that other people find annoying at times.

The funny thing is that mom and dad had an issue with how I said the term for that category of birds.

I used to call them "seagulls" (one word, with no pause between, and an equal stress on both syllables). And I would slur over the U. So it would sound like "Seigels".

I was close to thirty when mom and dad finally solemnly instructed me to ...stop saying it that way. Its " sea...gulls".

Then mom said "It's our fault. When you were a little kid and we took to the sea side you would get excited and point up and say 'look at the seigels! look at the seigels!', and dad and I tolerated it because we thought it was so cute and funny … because when you said it we would imagine a fat middle aged jewish couple in the sky with their arms outstretched wheeling around over the pier. But now that you're grown up...say it right!".

So...now I make sure to say "sea...gull".

However...when I watch the TV news these days its seems like most of the young reporters and witnesses seem to say it the same way I said it when I was a kid. They call the birds "Seigels".

I hope that their parents don't seem them do that on TV, and get embarrassed!

Where I live everyone calls them sea gulls. We're on an island, surrounded by the sea, so I guess it's redundant, but that's what we call them.

Even when they're flying around or swimming in bays we still call them sea gulls, because calling them bagels (bay gulls) would just sound silly.
