I don't get why schools had canes, straps and paddles in the past.

I am sorry to say that I don't think humans have evolved at all. These things still happen, the forms of torture have just become more efficient and clinical. Such as the Holocaust. I read that the Holocaust made biologists realise that humans hadn't evolved as much as they thought.

And of course the horrors taking place in Ukraine.

I'm not hopeful about the human race.

So we did evolve but we just found other ways of doing it.

How did we evolve? I thought evolving meant developing into something better. Sounds like we've devolved into something worse.

I don't get why I just bought $30 prescription eye drops when I got my glasses fixed, but came home and discovered they expired in 10/22. I can't be arsed to phone them or go back there to switch them.

^I would go back, if I were you.

It's ridiculous that they gave you expired eye drops. A pharmacy should know better.

It wasn't the pharmacy.
It was my optometrist.
It's about an hour drive round trip.
Plus I'd have to ring them first and complain.
I hate doing that.
I need to use them but if I open them I likely can't switch them. :(

I just phoned them, so thanks for the push KK.
They were shocked that all of their stock was expired.
They said I shouldn't use them or I might get an infection. :(
They will order new ones but they could take a week.
I'm not sure if they want the old ones back or if I can risk using them. :(

I don't get why I'm so bloody scared of making phone calls.

I can relate. I'll use email, web forms, anything other than having to speak to someone. <shudders>
Problem is there is so much crap user/customer service out there that you are forced to interact one way or another to get anything done.

i dont like making phone calls either

at my doctor surgery the only way to get an appointment is to phone up at a certain time you cant make appointment online

its why im often put off making doctor appointments

i think that every doctor surgery should have a website for registered patients that shows a chart of appointments and all you got to do is book a slot and its all there no telephone required

Exactly!!

No matter what I try to do online something messes up and I have to make a phone call.

It happened to me three times this week when my credit card PIN got locked for no reason.
Three hours of dicking around on the website and doing chat support, and they told me to phone them.
Then they supposedly unlocked it but the next day it was still frozen.
Repeat the whole process (online and phone).
Locked again the next day.
Phoned again yesterday and thank God it finally worked today.
I never did get an answer why they locked it in the first place.

My first job was on the phone. Late at night, dealing with drunk, belligerent people, who's speech slurs and have no ability to follow instructions.

I was happy to be out of there. That was the summer after my freshman year in college.

Same.

My doctor is lovely and works from home but she has two family members as reception.
One is super nice and one is a roving bitchhh.
I'm so scared of getting the b that I go months without making appointments.

I use Relay service quite often (type your info to a person who phones for you).
I'm too chicken to use it with my doctor since they already know me, and would think it's weird.

My first job was also on phones.
I was 14 and took a bus about 90 minutes each way after school (4 - 10 pm)
It was a tiny room with no windows, where people smoked.
I was selling coupon books which were good until "September .... 1984!!" --> with dramatic pause
I actually did pretty well despite the emphysema.

I think I made $3.25 / hour.

I did okay, and then I set a sales record during the day, catering for a large hotel conference. But since I was never getting a chance to pick my hours I was always getting the late night. Sucks about smoking. Though I admit I kind of miss it. My dad and my uncle used to smoke when I was a kid. Whenever I encounter smoke it takes me back to my childhood, a feeling of "home". Memories of smells are very strong.

Wow -- that's great that you got a sales record.
My smell memories are crazy strong too.
I smoked briefly when I was 13, too be cool, but didn't know how to inhale.
I still like the smell on other people, kind of.
I don't like it in the air though.

There's a cold front rolling in right now and the sky looks like bong fog. :D

That doesn't translate into any sort of reward, and then it wrecked our make time per order, since it was so huge and we weren't staffed to keep the corporate standard make time for an order that size.

Anyway, that job was educational. It illustrated what happens to failures, and where they end up working.

I don't get how people can watch the news from beginning to end and not be completely broken or suicidal afterwards.
