IMHO: "Die Hard is as much of a Christmas movie as "IT" was a clown movie.

Yeah . . . no . . .

Die Hard (IMHO) was just an action-adventure movie set against the Christmas season backdrop.

Sorta like how Outland was a cowboy movie set against a science-fiction backdrop -- the story took place on Io, a moon of Jupiter, where the sheriff went up against the bad guys.

I guess it’s a matter of personal perspective.

What is the emphasis, to you? Does it emphasize the action movie genre—or is Christmas the overriding motif?

I don’t know. Never saw the movie :P

8O

You should watch it. (and the rest of them, there's 3 or 4.)

Mostly action, but takes place during Christmas time and has just enough Christmas references for guys to argue it IS a Christmas movie and ought to be in the annual roster of films watched that time of year. :D

It's a Christmas movie in it's setting, but not so much the themes. So it depends on if setting is enough to count? Eyes Wide Shut also takes place on Christmas, does that make it a Christmas movie?

"Die Hard" fills me with Christmas joy, and taught me the true meaning of the Christmas spirit!

Just kidding.

Its a dumb contrived action movie that happens to be set at Christmas.

Not sure, iirc that's one of few movies that was too boring to finish watching so I have no idea what happens in it or whether it qualifies as a Christmas movie or not. :p I think I'm thinking of the correct movie, anyways.

The movie takes place at Christmas time but has nothing to do with Christmas otherwise so I do not consider it a Christmas movie. I like the movie & I also like The Cleveland Show spoof of it but Die Hard not a Christmas movie to me. Also the sequels did not even take place at Christmas time & were completely unrelated to Christmas. To me a Christmas movie has to have a plot that involves a Christmas theme like family togetherness, generosity, or Santa & related things.
