The lyrics to the song are "there's a bad moon on the rise.", but the singer is clearly singing "there's a bad moon on the right." He sings the word "rise" as "right".

It sounds more like "There's a bathroom on the right"

Apparently people have actually sung the song this way because they really thought that's how it goes.
And other songs too, like that song by Jimi Hendrix that goes, "'S'cuse me while I kiss the sky", but people have sung it as "S'cuse me while I kiss this guy".

You'd think they'd at least stop and think how the misheard sound lyrics often sound silly or don't make sense.

Well I don't remember the artist, but I recall a song from the 80's I have heard here and there on the radio since I was a kid. And the actual lyric says 'voices carry' but I always thought she was saying 'it's so scary'. So yeah very easy to mishear lyrics.

Also, I do enjoy metal and half the time I don't know what they are saying exactly with the harsh vocals, it can take a few times to catch on without looking up the lyrics. But then a lot of metal bands don't even sing in english, but i kind of like listening to music with foreign(to me) language vocals.

From "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi:

"Paint your smile on your lips,
Blood red nails on your fingertips"

I thought it was "blood red nails through a bag of chips"

Elvis Costello mangles the line "You're made out of porcelain" which I would never had known had I not looked it up. I though it said "You made out across the lane" though I wasn't sure what that could mean.

The Velvet Underground sings "And I guess that I just don't know" and I always thought it was "And I guess but I just don't know," which I think is a better line.

What if there was a bad moon on the left or a bad moon without any direction.

That's a great one! I picture Jimmy strolling down a crowded street chatting with a friend, spotting this guy standing there and then interrupt the conversation: "S'cuse me while I kiss this guy."

It is better to kiss the sky than to kiss the ground.

When I was younger I watched an episode of Tiny Toons where the characters were making music videos, and one of the songs was Istanbul (Not Constantinople), which was the first time I ever heard the song, and for years I thought the lyrics went "That's nobody's business but the jerks", but it really goes, "that's nobody's business but the Turks".

"do the toilet training five" in place of "do a ton and twenty-five" (Mungo Jerry's "in the summertime")

"Do you believe in life after love?" heard as "Do you believe in love after love?"

Don't They Know It's The End Of The World by Skeeter Davis; I thought the singer had a lisp and was trying to say Don't Say No It's The End Of The World

The bad moon is on the rise (so dont go out tonight for its suuuure to take your life).

If you mess it up then...go all of the way ...and call it a "bathroom on the right". :D

when i was in high school, the hit record by the blues brothers was "(i'm a) soul man" but i heard people singin' along with it saying "i was SO MAD!"
i also heard somebody singing "give her some fkkked up music" (real lyric by steely dan, in their song "FM" was "funked up music"). it is like people don't really try to analyze the situation.
