My parents' home back in the south got 7 inches of snow the other day. That's a pretty rare event, especially these days.

I can't believe that my former state got a Winter Storm Warning and I am yet to see one up here in New England... It makes me sad. I know the winters have been weaker up here, but I still expected a winter storm or two...

Winter weather can change from year to year. Those who have to deal with the cold, ice and snow normally have equipment and machines designed to deal with this form of weather. But in some southern states where winter only happens every now and then, they do not know what to do. An inch of snow can cause a cataclysm. They have no snow shovels, snow blowers, salt to melt and remove snow, shoes/boots that are designed for walking on ice, etc. So it can cause them more problems then those that are use to this type of weather.

The temperature dropped down to 15.8 degrees F. last night. But I understand that we might have near zero degree temperatures for the next couple days.

It is getting colder. The temperature fell to 0.0 degrees F ( -17.8 degrees C) this morning. I have resupplied the birds with birdseed. Around 40 - 50 birds or more are finding food when the ground is covered with almost a foot of snow. There are many babies trying to survive the cold winter.

It's 9 above here today but it's damp and it gets right in your bones so I actually preferred it when it was 4 below

Those foam faucet covers work at my house, as I have a heated basement to help keep the pipes warm.
They aren't as effective in warm climates with water systems that aren't designed for below zero weather.

So far it has been a mild winter where I live in Connecticut.

When I was a kid, we had a concrete pipe about two feet in the ground and the water faucet at the bottom. In the winter, we would dump some straw in and cover it with plywood some years.

Other years, we'd leave the faucet slightly open so that the entire thing was full of water. The ice usually wouldn't get more than an inch or two thick on it.

It was a very cold night. The temperatures fell to - 4.7 degrees F ( - 20.4 degrees C). The ground is still covered with snow. But I hear there is some warmer weather coming, maybe even some RAIN.

I have bird seed in the bird feeders. Around 50 birds are surviving this cold snap from the food. But this morning a squirrel found some bird seed on the ground and began to eat. That is not bad but I know what will happen next. I have seen it before. The squirrels will try and climb and destroy the bird feeders. Luckily the weather will become warmer and I will stop filling up the bird feeder. The birds will be able to survive on their own.

The weather forecasters are predicting more cold weather but I believe it is a couple weeks away.

We're lucky for the time being. Lowest temperature forecast for the next 10 days is 11F (night time), and there'll be enough "warm" days first to get rid of the little bit of snow that currently remains. It'll be a cold week though, with daytime temperatures Sunday through Tuesday staying below 27F.

Yes what it is and what it feels like can be quite different things. Moisture-laden cold air seems to take a lot more heat away from warm-blooded animals such as humans. Of course it's worse when it's windy. Dad used to work in a scrapyard, and he said he always felt colder if he stood next to a pile of cold metal, as if that drew the heat away somehow.

The weather is in the process of changing. Last night it went from around ten degrees then 25 degrees then back to around 20 degrees F again. It is trying to warm up. Wife said we will see a little bit of warmer temperatures but we will also get RAIN. Rain can be good because it can clear out the snow.

But as you said, another cold spell is coming. I have put some bird seed out there. I need to pick up another bag today for the next round of winter.

The temperature dropped down to 18.1 degrees F. last night. But I hear we are headed for a warming trend today. I went out and put bird seed in the bird feeders. I had purchased another bag of bird seed yesterday. So I should have enough for this winter. I have a lot of Happy Birds.

I think it's quite mild here today

I've kept my heating on but it's really low

I was using my electric fan heater for about ten hours at a time some days last week. This can't continue, as it'd cost me a fortune (also have had the gas fire on downstairs), so I've taken to sitting in my chair wrapped in a duvet, sometimes with a hot water bottle. I'm restricting use of the fan heater to two hours per day.

I garden outside in freezing weather wearing fleece lined pants! I also have flannel lined jeans for shopping in cold weather. I also have a couple dozen sweaters. Some of them are very thick and quite warm.

I live in a 3 bedroom ranch home. Costs me $240 a month for oil heat and another $60 a month for electricity.

The weatherman is predicting the first winter storm for Connecticut this weekend.

We had free gas for years. From the mid 1940s until about ten years ago because the oil company claimed that it was too dangerous from H2S. We had it tested and it was far from dangerous, but fighting the oil company about it was difficult.

350usd / month to heat...electricity 150./ mo....then it reverses during the Summer..And thats with the thermostat set to Winter, wearing layers upon layers, and the occassional heating pads , to summer casual ..
Kinda weird its like an entire generation ,lost the concepts of using heating pads and hotwater bottle to help stay warm in the winter , even put one on top of your chest at night if you are having lung issues . :nerdy:
