count to infinity by one at a time, pffff........ you don't have that much time,
infinity is very very far -- it would take how many centuries and how many platoons of trained monkeys??

I like how I can already be very obviously upset/stressed out, and it's basically a game for everyone I know to be an ass for no reason and make me more upset and feel like an idiot for anything I say or do.

Mastodon sounds like a less bad version of Twitter.

I don't understand why so many people on WP are willing to disclose personal info. Online thieves are collecting as much info of individuals as possible so that they can use it for their criminal activities.

Finally managed to get online with it, but it was incredibly slow initially. Server overloaded with lots of folks jumping ship from Twitter. It just needs more interesting people to join e.g. various scientists. NASA is on Mastodon though.

You know you've been spending too much time on WP when you read Ford Focus as Fnord Focus.

Apparently, you cant split an infinitive in Spanish, even if you tried.

The infinitive of 'go' in English is "to go". In Spanish it's "var".

The most famous case of getting away with splitting an infinitive in English is the intro to the original Star Trek show.

"To go boldly where no man has gone before". As opposed to "to boldy go where no man has gone before".

In Spanish it would be "var boldly" (whatever the Spanish word for "boldly" is). Var is "to go" in one single word, so it cant be split. And the adjectives and adverbs come after the noun/verb they describe in Spanish, rather than before the modified word as in English. So you would have no choice but to say "var boldly", and it would not split the infinitive.

???
"var" is not Spanish for to go.

To go would be generlly "ir." There are other words, but no var.

I get the point about the split infinitive. I've read that even English grammarians are moving away from that rule and some of the others based on Latin.

Guess I wasnt paying attention that day in eighth grade Spanish class.

The rest of the conjugated versions of "go" are variants of 'va'. But the infinitive is 'ir'. I stand corrected.

But you still couldnt split it even if you wanted to.

Also being a poet or songwriter must be a LOT easier in the Romance languages than in English. Every word in Spanish, and Italian, ends in either the masculine 'O' sound, or in the feminine 'a' sound. So every word in the language rhymes with fifty percent of all the other words in the language. No need for thesauruses, nor rhyming dictionaries. :)

I don't understand when someone says, "keep the change" when they provide less than a dollar over the amount they owe the restaurant. Like do they literally think I walk around with a pocket full of coins to give someone back? Oh, thank you for your generous 18¢ tip for delivering you a $30 meal in a snowstorm in my truck with no heat.... And then they act like they are giving me a good tip and "really appreciate" me.

Or the people who have plenty of money on whatever card they use to pay for the order, but decide not to tip when paying with the card and then claim that they are sorry they don't have any cash on them for a tip this time, but they will make sure they tip next time they order. Like, you're not fooling anyone, we both know you don't tip, don't lie about it when I never even bring it up. Also, it's not like I would be the one delivering to them next since I am only one of like 10 drivers (total, not per shift).
