I've got paintings and pictures of family all around the living room. We choose based how well it's balanced above the furniture. I've got a wide painting above the long couch with pictures of me and my brothers' graduation photos on one side and pictures of my grandparents on the other.

I also have a painting made by a late second cousin of mine hanging above the fireplace.

Do you feel obligated to stop someone from making a mistake you yourself wouldn't do or do you let the consequences be the teacher?

It depends who it is. If it's my kids I feel it's my duty to at least advise them, but then again as they get older I kind of let them do their own thing within reason. No one ever guided or advised me and it wasn't great learning the hard way.

With friends they'd have to ask for my opinion, and then I'd be tactful.

Depends who it is and what the mistake is. I have to practically force my dad not to talk on the phone while he drives because if I don't, he might get in an accident and die.
But with smaller mistakes, I'll usually tell him it's a bad idea, he won't listen because he thinks he knows better than everyone else, and then I can say "I tried to warn you..."
If it's someone I'm less close with I usually don't feel like it's my place to tell them they're wrong unless they ask. Although most of my family has the I-know-better-than-everyone gene so often I wouldn't accomplish much either way.

I have to train people as part of my job and generally I’m very easygoing when it comes to mistakes. I let people find out for themselves, unless I really need to correct them. I’ve noticed other types of personality need to correct things straight away.

Do you have any tips for how to get a good nights sleep?

Main thing I've learned is to stop eating earlier. If I stop eating at 6pm-ish I sleep so much better than if I eat late or keep munching into the evening.

I think it's different for everyone but for me the only thing that works is to sleep my natural hours. I naturally sleep from midnight to 8 or 9 am so if I have to get up early, I will not sleep well no matter how early I go to bed.

If you could completely redo your house/apartment/etc. however you wanted, what would you change?

I need all new stained glass / leaded windows, upstairs laundry, a doorway to get to the garage from inside the house, a 15' stone wall all around the property to keep the cats in and block nosy neighbours, cat climbers on the walls, and yes - I will finally paint my god-forsaken bedroom. I hope.

Oh and add a door in one spot.

Oh I would raze it to the ground and start again. It wasn't designed for human habitation. It was a dog kennel for hunting hounds. Then it was converted into homes. Doesn't even have a damp proof course, you couldn't legally build this house today. Also I would rebuild it somewhere else.

How many different types of tree could you identify, more or less?

Do you have a favorite thing to clean? What is it?

I think I'd say my room when it gets to the point where I can't even walk anymore. (which is the only time I clean it anyway.) I can spend an entire afternoon turning a two-meter-high pile of crap into a nice neat organized space. Very satisfying and not gross.

I quite like vacuuming the stairs. They're the only part of the house that is carpeted and they get quite gross. I never feel like the house is properly clean until the stairs are vacuumed.

Did you ever get anything for free? What was it?

I've won stuff but I'm not sure about just regular "free", except when I take people's furniture from the curb.
I've got quite a few lovely antique pieces that people couldn't be bothered to lug to the tip.

Draft excluders (brushes fitted to the bottom of doors)
LED light bulbs
A power controller that switches on the rest of the entertainment system when the TV turns on

All government programs

We may pay higher taxes than the states, but we get stuff for it.
I don't want to think how much all my surgeries would have cost.
If I lived in USA I would have died in 2014 after a brain bleed.
I hit the prescription safety net last month, Now they're all free until January.
I wouldn't want to be uninsured in USA if the orange sphincter mouth gets in.

I remember talking to a Texan in England who said "but you pay so much tax"
And when asked how much it cost to have her child said $250,000
How much tax had I paid that year? Under $3000
The equivalent of 83 years of me not paying tax to get a kid?

It takes a special kind of gullibility to believe...well...every single word vomited from said sphincter.
Land of the free? I think you'll find that's Finland.

<Fireant nest stick insertion - complete>

My question,
How long does it take you to get to work?

45 minutes by bus.

Do you like horses regardless if you have ever rode one or not?

Yes, I love horses. I have ridden one a few times although, like most things, it's difficult when you're twice as tall as everyone around you.
