Thought Brits might as well have this sort of thread as well.

not much, really, i never was one for patriotism, it is just a country, perhaps better of than some, worse of than others, it will do for me, though

The diverse range of cultures, the language, the beautiful countryside, the people, the liberal streak (though this has been lost in recent years). And the accents. What country can you go to where you can get such a diverse range as Ulster, Manchester, Cornwall, Cockney, various Scottish, Geordie, Scouse, Bristle and Yorkshire?

the english language the english language the english language

I know other places use it now, but what a beautiful amazing incredible thing.

Otherwise, hmmm... CHARITY SHOPS

Toast and butter and marmite , when i am eating wheat and dairy. Not just now.

Withnail & I, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and early Genesis. Absolutely Fabulous, and Victoria Wood, and Cleese and Palin. Sherlock Holmes. Peter Sellers. Ealing Comedies. Alec Guinness. "Excalibur". George Eliot, Charlotte and Emily Bronte, Dickens and Tolkien. John Wyndham, Agatha Christie, and Dick Francis. Madness, ( the band ! !) and other super music.

And that's just a tiny microscopic bit of what " this small offshore island" means to me.......

Too many chavs, hoodies, bad manners, drunk teenagers, rotten politicians, nanny state rules, sofa sales.

Too much apathy, self-centredness, obesity, nimbyism, road rage, traffic, light pollution, cctv in public places, house-building, immigration, positive discrimmination.

Good stuff, erm.... mediaeval country churches, history, communal eccentricity (such as cheese-rolling, worm-charming, nettle-eating contests), real ale, traditional folk music, kilts, stiff upper lips, stately homes, National Trust, pomp and circumstance, hunting, NH racing, and finally, Coronation Street.

Please be aware this list is not exhaustive :D

WW2 & making fun of the Germans, TEA [I'll say that again "TEA!"], bad coffee [But not in my house], big aggressive dogs we treat like babies, Monty Python, Lower Middle Class people, litter in the streets, really really tough servicemen that never lose their tempers or hit their children, boarding schools [staffed by the former],...

Ship all your criminals down to Australia like in the good old days.

I am descended from 2 convicts on the First Fleet. My great-great etc grandfather was convicted of theft of money from a pub. My great-great etc grandmother stole a horse!
