The other day I visited a shelter, looking to adopt a young cat. I had a tabby in mind, but interestingly a sign on the door as I entered the cat room said, "Don't try and find a cat, let the cat find you." As it turns out, a small black cat found me. He has apparently grown up in the shelter because black cats are slow to be adopted. He has the most beautiful, shiny coat I've ever seen - it looks like black silk. His personality is precious. I'm going to pick him up tomorrow, if all goes well when I introduce him to my children.

I know I'm in good company here with other cat lovers, so let me see your black cats! This is my black cat appreciation thread 8)

Do you have a picture of your new kitty? I don't have a black cat, but I find them to be beautiful. There are a lot of people on my cat site who have black OSH (Oriental Shorthair, a breed related to the Siamese) kitties. They're gorgeous.

Black cats are believed to be bad luck. I don't think that's true, because black cats are too beautiful to be bad luck. Mum used to have a black cat named PC, but when she divorced our dad, he took PC. :(

Flismflop - beautiful cat!

I will post a photo as soon as I bring my new little guy home.

As for black cat and luck, in many cultures the black cat is considered very good luck. In fact, all "luck" associated with black cats used to be purely good luck. This changed when the church began associating cats with witches, thus making them "bad". Black cats, since they are most difficult to see at night, were associated with being "familiars" to witches. You can probably find all of that on Wiki, if you're interested.

This pic makes my little black kitty look huge, but she is really quite petite (6 lbs, give or take half a pound as her weight is fluctuant). I call this pic "Most Revered Enemies."

Both my black cats ran-away :(

Technichally one left after I moved away, and the other was attacked by neighborhood dogs and disappeared.
