One thing that has sometimes bothered me (like when listening to Patience by Guns'n'roses) is that i can not whistle. I have never learned to. I've never been obsessed with learning to whistle, like many people are when young.

That is probably the sole reason i can't whistle right now. But it would be interesting to see if there's any correlation between inability to whistle and ASDs. I think it could have to do with clumsiness and bad coordination. Any thoughts on this?

I'm the only person I know who can't whistle. It bugs the heck out of me.

It took me a while, but I learned to whistle in 1st grade. Everyone kept saying "Just put your lips together and blow." It's more complicated than that. I was so jealous of everyone else that could whistle, I just HAD to learn.

There was a fake whistling I used to do until I figured out how to do it for real...can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Of course, I might be thinking of something else.

Yeah, but I didn't learn how until a few years ago.

This thread has me practicing my one whistling note and then switching it to make kissy noises. I like kissy noises better. Good thing the kids like to be smooched on.

I made myself whistle until I could do it at a decent volume. Since then, it has become another stim of mine. :P

Well thanks to this thread, I'm now making popping noises w/ my lips. Like Donkey in Shrek.

Stupid fingers aren't typing well. And typing and spelling are my strogn suits!

Okey...

So basically, one third of this board can whistle reasonably well!? That's fewer than i had expected.
Do you have any ideas about what could explain this?

I can whistle very poorly, but never do.

I HATE the sound of a person whistling, no matter how "good" at it they are....

Yes. But there are two types of whistling, and I can only do one of them. I can't do the really loud whistle with the fingers in the mouth. I can do the whistle just using the mouth.

I can't whistle, either. I've been trying for years, but I haven't learned how to whistle.

Idunno...nobody really taught me how to do it, like I said, "put your lips together and blow" didn't help me at all. Maybe everyone else had bad instructions as well?

You have to kind of pull back your bottom lip a little, like you're trying to blow slightly downward.

Never did figure out the finger whistle thing, but I can whistle with an acorn cap =D
