Trying to remember some good examples...

It’s usually French words - “bourgeois” is one.

I also don't like the word "pretentious". People use it so often to criticize things they don't like without providing any further reason.

Also the word "practically". As in "it was so cold I practically froze to death". I admit that I use the word in that context when speaking but it annoys me to see it in writing.

No, I love all words. I hate some phrases, like "near miss"

I hate the following words:

meat
meal
moist
rich (when it applies to food, but not when it applies to money - weird, huh?)
tender (again, when it applies to food)
ointment

Actually, I hate most adjectives used to describe food. "light and fluffy" is awful, but I like the words "light" and "fluffy" in other contexts.

All those words are bad, I just hate the way they feel.

I dislike using the word "supper" and use the word "dinner" when at all possible.

Words and phrases inserted as fillers ("you know," "um," "uh," "and so forth")

"I says" instead of "I said." (It would be better that the extraneous phrase be eliminated from speech altogether. It is as bad as saying, "um.")

Busy (When discussing clothing styles, as in, "That fabric is just too busy.")

all words beginning with sl- (apart from sleep)

also, does anyone else think that the words enigma and enigmatic are really overused? In my head they should be really uncommonly used but they are just used to mean "a little bit weird".

I don't know anyone who uses the term 'dungarees' anymore. It's been out of use since the 1950s.

Words that annoy me most are of the hybridized slang variety (combining two words into a new one), like "Guesstimate" [guess and estimate]
