You should only post in this thread if it is between approximately midnight and 6am in your particular time zone, and you are posting here when you really should be asleep but just don't really feel like sleeping right now. Personally, I spend far too much time during the day in work and class and my time not involved in such is precious and I don't want to waste it sleeping :P.

The latest I've stayed were nights that lasted into days and back into nights again. That was for about 4 days I think.

That's impressive. I think I have at my best insomniaccing stayed up for about 36 hours straight. At the end I was only vaguely aware of whether I was actually awake or not.

I think near the end of the longest, I started hallucinating a little. That was creepy, I felt like someone was tapping on the shoulder and I knew then it was getting bad.`

How did you manage to actually stay awake that long?

I was taking caffeine pills and was off my meds after a while. Not sure which was which but I know around that time I was having a lot of anxiety plus my working hours kept getting changed.

I have found at this point the only way to get to sleep is to take 5 or 6 wal-soms, at which point I physically lose the ability to stay awake. That is probably not healthy.

I used to take Benedryl and Tylenol PMs. The dose progressed into larger amounts and I was rushed in a hospital..don't remember what happened.

I also use to take Trazadone . That stuff kicked in so quick, I'd get it again but I think I had some bad side effects.

Benadryl and tylenol PM are not good because they contain other ingredients that can do very bad things to you in large doses. Something like wal-som (which is exactly the same thing as unisom) contains only a sedative, although I believe it can still kill you if you take enough of it, though the lethal dose is probably several whole bottles of the stuff. In moderately high doses I gather it's a powerful hallucinogen, but the hallucinations it produces are very difficult to discern from reality, in fact, you can think you're alright, not doing anything, when in fact you are somewhere completely different and doing something very crazy. For a while I took melatonin, which is a surprisingly effective sedative, but I stopped when it started giving me bad nightmares and leaving me extremely groggy in the mornings, and I also heard it can cause depression, which I have a bad enough problem with anyway.

Sometimes my body just feels like there is so much energy and it just wants to go around moving. The strange thing is that my head is tired but the body is realy energised and can't stay still.

The unisom gelcaps are made with diphenhydramine, which can cause hallucinations in sufficient doses (~400mg or 20 gelcaps), the tablets can be made with either diphenhydramine or doxylamine. Doxylamine is apparently a more powerful sedative then diphenhydramine, so perhaps better for going to sleep with, although I don't know how it works as a hallucinogen, as apparently no one has tried it.
