Does anyone else here have that problem? That's one of the reasons I always dread Christmas. People get me gifts, and I'm genuinely thankful for them, but I can never do much better than plastering an awkward smile across my face and kind of mumbling, "Uh, thanks."

Yes. I find it easier not to get close enough to people to have to deal with that kind of thing.

Well, at my age, that's rather difficult, as my mother's boyfriend has a rather large, living family, and I can't move out of state or anything.

I'm another one. My birthday and Christmas are both dreaded events. I am always greatful but I subconsciously think I'm not expressing it enough.

I used to find myself boewing, somehow I picked up a bit of foreign courtesy things.

im a bit like this, thats why looking back on it my birthdays as a kid never seemed that enjoyable, because i used to have big parties with lots of people invited

i also sometimes find myself to be forgetful of the things I have received..

I am not very good at this either. I am thankful, just real bad at making it vocal.

However it seems to be with different people, say if a stranger helped me out, like pick up a book that I dropped, I have no issues saying thanks, but when it comes to realitives.... I seem to have issues.

I also tend to feel somewhat odd saying “thanks”, but I do it anyway. It's one of those social conventions that I can't bring myself to disregard, probably because (unlike many aspies, apparently) I have a rather low tolerance towards rudeness.
