I hope to move into one soon. I was wondering, how much does it cost?

It depends on the cost of living where you are.

And if you want to live in a city or the countryside, probably a difference there

It depends on where you live and what kind of apartment you are looking into. Multi-bedroom apartments can cost at least $800-$1000 a month, and a real nice one can go beyond that, but a studio apartment might cost only around $400-500 a month (with or without some ultilties, it depends).

For example, a one-bedroom apartment in Oklahoma City (the cheapest major city in the U.S.) is in the $500-$600 range, where the same apartment in New York City or San Francisco would be around $2,000 a month.

If one wants to live in the countryside, it might be some bucks
to save, around where i live for example you can get a big
nice house with some good sized property and often a barn
and garage for around $600-800, rented. When i lived in
the city, that would have cost me around $3,500 and up a month
just for the house with a tiny property 8O

One tip, buy if possible, dont rent. That might be different from
place to place, but renting for me have always been throwing a
pile of $ out the window every month. Instead of paying for
lending a roof over your head, buy and use the cash to pay
down the houseloan you might have to get. So after a while
its yours instead of moving to a new place and leaving thousands
of $ behind.

^ I completely agree with your tip not to rent. :chin:

Around here, rent is fairly cheap, averaging $250-$400 for most places, with $500 for the nicest places. For $350-$400, you can rent, or rent to own, an average full sized house. Not many good jobs here, so I think that is one of the main reasons that things are so cheap. :)

Prices vary.

I have seen a two bedroom apartment for rent in Spokane for $475 a month. That city is actually a cheap city, good place for students to go to school and have their own apartment.

I pay mine for $650 and more apartments are expensive here but some are cheap.

You can look on craiglist for apartments to rent or rent.com. Enter any city and it should tell you how much the rents are for each apartment.

A house like the one i live in now, in the capital with a nice location
goes that high 8O But the prices there have been insanely high for
a long time now.

I currently pay $2000 = £1100 a month for a two bedroom apartment.

Well, it depends on the location and the size of the apartment and whether it is furnished or not. Basically, I would avoid subsidized if I could, because anything that is based on your income does not really allow you any chance to save any extra money you might earn. Then you have to figure out if utilities come with it or not. So there are a lot of factors involved.

Right now I am looking at buying a house, and I have to go through the same kinds of figuring, not only what the mortgage is going to cost but all the other things. There is so much I don't know, so I have to do my research, talk to people who own the type of house I am looking at, for example.

It's best to look in your local paper and see what rents are running. Also ask friends and relatives what they recommend. If there is a university or school in your area, they may have a tenant-landlord service which might be helpful in letting you know who is a good landlord and who is not.
