People frequently say I ought to be a model, and as that I could care less about things of the sort, I'd never really considered it.

But now I need money.

And it seems like models get paid pretty well, especially considering how pointless and simple such a 'job' is. Is this so? Is it even worth the effort?

How hard would it be to get into modeling? I've heard the same things about me. The best part is, I've never had to worry about zits once. I know there's different types of models for different things, so hopefully being 5'3" wouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm thin, so that part works.

There are many different types of models. As some have pointed out, most people think of the tall skinny runway types. But look at adverts, there are hand models. They just hold something like a bottle of perfume. There's face models who just do pic like for hairstyles or makeup. There's leg models who just do stockings ads. And so on ...
Careful with the agencies, some will ask for fees, then never place you.
Look in classified sites like "Craigslist" to see the opportunities.

In the modeling world, 5'7" is borderline short. 5'3" would be midget. Sorry.

my daughter's done some modeling, never made much.

It depends on the modeling, type, reason.

Be very careful about getting leads from Craig's list...a lot of that is for pr0n sites, or worse.

Also, watch out for those 'if you'll come and pay x amount of dollars, we'll shop your face to Hollywood' outfits. A lot of the time, you get the pic, they get the money, and blow town. Reputably, she got an offer to be an extra in 'Pirates of the Carribean II', but it didn't come to pass.

If you can make money on it, go for it. But to be honest, it's like trying to be a rock star; it takes years of hard work to build up some recognition....

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Models are paid millions to twirl in the latest bra and panty set. Right? Nope -- not unless they are one of an extremely small (and beautiful) handful of young women.
Last year, models made a median hourly wage of $11.22, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bit less than twice the minimum wage of $5.85. Not so glamorous.

I'm not sure about supermodels because I am not that tall but I got offered to do modelling a couple of years ago through an employment agency. For modelling clothes but I said "no" because I simply don't have the confidence. I can't stand people looking at me as it is.

You don't have to be anoxeric. I don't have an anoxeric figure. Personally, I find alot of the super skinny super models unattractive.
