I knew somebody once who joked about putting thier hand in acid?

How painful do you think it would be to have your hand put in acid?

I am just asking people to use thier imigination.

Well it would hurt at first like boiling water and then you'd feel like something was missing from the peg of your wrist.

Before you know it, you're bleeding to death and go out unconscious due to shock...

It depends on the strength of the acid.

HCI would hurt like hell for a minute until it burned through all the nerve endings in the hand and then it would go numb.

Citric acid would at most just tingle and possibly itch but would not cause any notable injury.

Battery acid is somewhere between the two.

There are a variety of other strengths between those two extremes, depending upon the chemical in question and how diluted it may be with water or other bases.

Last year I got my right hand burned with hot oil. I lost the skin on three of my fingers. During the first hours, the pain was unbearable and all that could soothe it was to submerge my hand in cold water. But after a few minutes, when the temperature was back to normal, or I made the slightest movement, the pang returned. Finally I had to take my hand out of the water and expose it to room temperature until I got used to the burning feeling.

After a couple of months, my skin grew again and no traces remain of that accident.

Poor LabPet had an accident with acid, I have burns from battery acid on my arm and stomach.
Not the greatest feeling having acid bubbling away on your skin, although its isn't nearly as bad
as passing a kidney stone.

having acid poured on you is supposed to be one of the most painful deaths. i personally think skinned alive outbeats acid, though.

Depends on the acid. I've poured vinegar on myself a few times. Doesn't hurt.

However I'd recommend not leaning over any boiling liquid with HCl in it unless you're holding your breath and wearing goggles.

I would advise against experimenting with that.

My mom put lemon juice with wheat in my face (a home remedy for acne). After two minutes, it itched, and I wanna wash my face. But my mom said I had to stay with the lemon juice in my face for 15 minutes. It hurted :P
