Do you FREAK out when you find a bug in your food, suspect there's a bug in your food, or worst of all, find out you've just unknowingly eaten a bug that was in your food?

:shaking:

It's flour moth season here - and I found a moth in some rice yesterday and ended up throwing all 16 oz's of it in the garbage. I tried to fish him out and lost him. I tried desperately to find him but I think his body evaporated into the rice. :eew: I hated to waste the rice but I just knew I wouldn't get over it.

Then just now - I found a dead baby moth worm in my iced tea. I think it fell off a cabinet somewhere into my tea.

I am *this close* to a meltdown if I have another run-in with a moth in my food. I will be forced to throw out all our dry goods. (I've done it before) I won't use pesticides and those little sticky things are so-so. :eew:

On the otherhand, mmmmm....I love crab, lobster, crawfish, and shrimp. Buggylicious!

I think bugs are cool, but I don't want bugs in my food. I would have thrown that food out too.

When I was wee, I used to hunt for bugs in my back garden. There was a bush in which often there were caterpillars, aphids and ladybirds. The shed always had spiders with pretty backs. I also used to lift up the slabs in the garden to see the hordes of slaters (slaters = woodlice) beneath. My mum once told me I picked a slater up to show her how it keeps its young (I've no idea what young slaters are called) beneath it.

I do find insects more unsettling now though.

Although I don't remember the last time I found a bug in any of my food, my sister told me she found a maggot in her rice before. :eew: Now every time I have rice, I watch very carefully when I eat. The bad part about it is that some rice grains have those little specks of black that look like a maggots head, so that makes me even more cautious. :ncool:

Its also why I break open sunflower seeds by hand. I've found little maggots or worms or whatever, curled up in the shell. (That's what those bitter sunflower seeds are - I think.) :eew:

Can't say I've found many bugs in my food. Found a weevil in a pepper once, which I guess grossed me out a bit. Needless to say, that particular pepper was prohibited from putrefying my salsa.

Buggylicious. Good neologism; would use again.

Makes me want some crawfish etouffe.

That's nasty to think about too. :eew: I only eat the shelled ones anymore, but sometimes you find them with little hole bored in them, from the worms. To date, I haven't found any worms, and that's good because I would have to stop eating them by the handful, if I did. :chin: :eew:

The place where I usually find bugs is in dry cake mixes. Little weevils or moth larvae that have hatched inside the plastic bag with the mix. I have seen them enough that whenever I am going to use a box of the cake mix, I check for the telltale webs.

Wait, isn't the "mustard" actually crab feces still inside the crab? That is what somebody actually told me it was... 8O :eew:

when i was a kid, a white zebra-striped elongated beetle landed on my dinner, and boiled to death there and then

the horriblest part was that i immediately noticed that this was an insect i had never seen before, and it came into my life, and immediately died, cooked, ON my food.

frrrrrrreaky :(

twice I have found a small worm in a peanut after I have separtated it in half. Now I have to separate each one or chew very fast hoping I don't feel it on my tongue. I've pretty much moved on to peanutbutter.
