Help. I just spilled red wine on my best dress, and I can't ask my mum what to do cos she just this minute advised against wearing my best dress just for the hell of it, LOL. What gets red wine out of fabric????

Allegedly, white wine removes red wine stains (or white wine vinegar) blotted well - you will smell like a wino though!

It DID work on a ball gown, I think...but I also fell over on a muddy slope so the whole thing had to be drycleaned anyway

Hope your dress will be ok

Hi again Gina

Mme Le Pen is right, fabric type matters. (Cheers for that 8) )

Also Gina I note you are from yorkshire, like me, so a store like Wilkinsons (ie, probabbly that one, but not advertising them) should have Stain Removal stuff specifically for wine stains...there used to be something called Stain Devils (or similar product..I'm sure there are others as good  )

I found a website too, in case you are in a hurry, with stain removal tips
Stain removal-red wine stains

Good luck!

^ Good call. I have this stuff that removes red wine, ink, and stains like that. You just gotta read the label to make sure its safe. I don't know what its called but sounds like a American wine-stain-removal cousin of your stuff.

Ummm...and Gina? Red wine? Don't you know if you're going to under-age drink, red wine's not the way to go. Or Hurricanes. Or cranberry-vodka. Stick with the clear stuff. ;) :P

White wine + ice cube. Rotate the ice cube in a small circle. Dab with cloth (don't rub). Add more white wine as necessary.

However the white wine thing works better the newer the stain is.

In fact there is no reason why an ethanol/water solution wouldn't work just as well. But be careful it isn't a strong solution or it might take the colour out or destroy the fabric.

The other way is to buy ca. 10 litre of same red wine and put your whole dress into the wine, so the stains will become the colour ...

I have heard that salt will absorb the stain. I don't drink though so I cant say from experience.

Thanks for advice, guys. The fabric is mostly cotton, and it's black with white patterns on.

I got most of the stain out with stain remover, but I missed a bit and it ain't coming out. I'll try putting water on it...

LOL I prefer white wine anyway, but Mum likes red so that's mostly what I have.
