Do any of you use cameras to navigate social situations? Instead of interacting I often become the photographer at social events. I have noticed that instead of interacting I am always thinking "this would make a good picture" and taking out my camera. It is a nice social buffer.

Never thought of it that way...but I suppose that's exactly what I do! I take my camera to just about every occasion. It's like an escape.

Yes, I do this, very much so.
I enjoy photographing the interractions of others, but not taking part in them myself.

Yes, but sometimes I do it too much and people complain. At first I thought that it was something I only got into a few years ago but then I was going through photos (my mom is big on them too) and found a bunch I took as a kid and remembered that I used to talk my mom into lending me her camera all of the time (and she did because I was considered mature). I actually want to do it as a side job but I need to start working on my social anxiety first.

I love this forum :-) I only just discovered it and it's so wonderful to hear from similar women.

I tried not using the camera at social events. I brought it and kept it in my fannypack but resisted the temptation to pull it out and keep it out. It was like I was having withdrawl symptoms
