I've had long and short hair. Having a good stylist who knows how to cut short hair for women is ESSENTIAL. The cut makes all the difference- either you will be cute and fashionable or you will have a 12-year old boy's hair cut. Do not skimp on the stylist, and make sure to ask if they know how to cut short hair for women!

Things that help: you will always need to wear jewelry and makeup. If you think you can go au naturale, no no no.

I totally agree with rahrah, and I speak with experience, ALWAYS wear makeup and jewelry, and, only get it if you are well past puberty.

Getting my hair cut is not something I look forward to. Too many times I found that it was cut too short. I can envision the style, but I am not able to explain it to the person cutting my hair. I have been able to find pictures of similiar styles, but nothing that is precisely what I am looking for.

Besides that I don't even know if it will work with my hair. Recently the ends in the back curl up. The hair on the sides conform to the shape of my ears.

Has anyone gone for a haircut and trusted the stylists to the point of allowing them to make the decision of choosing the cut?

Since moving to overly hot and sticky Kissimmee FL I have been getting my hair cut over at the barber shop in the Magic Kingdom on Main Street at Walt Disney World. It's only $20 for the cut, I have a seasons pass, and once the hair is cut I have an amusement park to enjoy. Actually there's 4 parks. And there's a place to buy wonderful pastries also on Main Street plus other places in the other parks. But is it the best place for a hair cut? I don't know at all.

Any suggestions?

I have short hair because it is easier to handle. With my long hair (I had it about shoulderlength before) was too hot in summer and I even didn´t like it in winter. So I have a short cut. The only problem is that I am sometimes considered as male.

For the longest time I grow my hair out and hack to donate as much as possible then I get an easy to fix punk hair style for a while. I usually start thinking about donation when it gets stuck in my armpit when getting up from a chair. Does this happen to anyone else? Usually after just applying deodorant.. *yank* Yup. Time to donate.

Last November I cut my hair from a dowdy shoulder length non-style to a choppy crop (I did it myself because I have issues with the smells in salons). It's the first time in my life that I've really liked my hair. I "upgraded" to a no. 8 (1 inch) last week. I don't miss trying to make it look "presentable" every morning - for which I lack the ability - and I'm personally more confident in my androgyny. :D

NO!! ! I will NOT wear jewelry or makeup with my short hair!! ! I HATE wearing jewelry and makeup! The way necklaces and bracelets rub against my skin until it's raw and greasy oily dusty makeup is not worth it at ALL. And if other people don't like it they can just kiss my shiny white butt!

I have had mine long for years,, looked at a coworker my age with a similar style and it hit me that a pony tail probably isn't an appropriate style for a short dumpy 54 yo.. so i had it done should length,,blunt,,MUCH easier to take care of which is a big thing with me,, I wont put in a lot of effort.. no makeup.. hate the stuff,, i do like jewelry. When I found out i was aspie,, one of my goals has been to simplifiy and eliminate sources of frustration,, and being over whelmed,, shorter hair is much easier..
