Aspie Woman interests/obsessions?

I figured it belonged here, since it's more or less geared toward women on the spectrum/have Asperger Syndrome. I want to know what some of your most common obsessions/specific interests are. I don't really qualify for asking myself because I do have a pretty normal range for interests. (IE. Anime, paranormal, Alice in Wonderland, writing... more I can't think of.)

I've tried looking this up and all I noticed was that most aspie women are into animals or literature. But that's not really all, is it? They always say that every person with Autism is different, so it should be the same for interests. The reason I ask is because a character in my story, who is female, has Asperger Syndrome.

So, what are your strict/narrow interests or obsessions?

Mine right now is theology (has been religion is various forms since I was about 12 years old). To a lesser degree, I am also into anime right now. Would probably be more into it if I wasn't so busy with university though.

Past obsessions were flags, cultures/geography, the Holocaust, aliens, astrology, and more...

I am going through a complete overhaul now. My interests and obsessions now are fashion, self-expression/presentation, interpersonal skills and fighting anxiety.

I've always been fond of most animals, especially cats, but I'm also partial to guinea pigs and owned two of them when I was a teenager. I also like and understand a lot of animals many other people find scary or ugly, like snakes, spiders, and bats. People with Asperger's are supposedly all logic and nonsense, but I've had a real fondness for creatures of fantasy like fairies and dragons and I like reading and learning about fantasy creatures from different cultures like Japan and different parts of Europe. I've been a fan of classic cartoons like Disney and Looney Tunes for as long as I can remember, being a cartoonist myself, and even as a teenager I would buy and collect stuffed animals and dolls and "role play" with them in my bedroom. Before I was diagnosed my mother used to think this was "wrong" and tried to encourage me to do "normal" teenage girl stuff, most of which I found stupid or just wasn't good at. I wanted to wear just jeans and t-shirts all the time, I hated almost every other type of clothing and still do. I was fascinated by Japanese animation years before the whole world became crazy about it and there were only a handful of anime shown on a regular basis. But now I find it's become too "mainstream" or whatever it is you call it. In the 90's I was obsessed with troll dolls and had at least a couple of hundred of them, and when the fad started to die it really bothered me a lot. Some of my current obsessions now are The Sims 3, fairies, vampires (not Twilight), cats, YouTube and Facebook, the last two being something I thought I'd NEVER become interested in because I'm mildly cyberphobic and it took me a while to overcome anxieties about my safety online.

Time, Tennessee Williams, New Orleans, antiquity and animal behavior. I notice that I use television as a frame of reference which could be considered an interest.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE ME. O_O I still do this with plushies. I talk to them and make it seem like they are talking back in this squeaky child-like voice I do. I also have always had a HUGE fondness for cartoons. Like, I watch Spongebob, fairly odd parents, Disney, Looney tunes... anything like that. Basically, I won't watch anything with violence or a lot of crude humor, aside from maybe Futurama and American Dad. I do watch Tom and Jerry, despite the violence. I'll watch any cartoons, as long as they are geared toward kids. I even watch things for preschoolers. O_O

Anyway, I've been thinking that one of her interests could be anime. I know that's something I'm really into. Maybe for fashion, she could be into really old fashion from the early 1900's or something... O_O Thanks for all the ideas. ^_^

It helps to know that not all female aspies are into literature or animals. >_< I might have her also be into zoo animals or something. I'll have to really think about what I want her to be into and have at least two narrow interests.

Basically, my story is about this girl who is bullied for being different and for having AS. Her behaviors get her into trouble a lot and cause her to be bullied, because the kids don't understand, even if she or someone else tells them. It's basically going to revolve around how us autistic people are bullied and how we have trouble being able to tell someone what is happening or being told 'it's our fault'.

In terms of 'special interests' I'm all about women's sexual and reproductive health, particularly focused on menstruation. In turn menstrual activism focusing on social and cultural attitudes to menstruation and women's bodies, and sanitary product manufacturing including health effects, environmental issues and marketing.

I'm interested in environmentalism, specifically toxins in everyday products. I still have interest in past 'special interests' of geology and religion/philosophy. I'm interested in disability rights. I love geocaching. I've always been interested in death.

For the record past interests have also included sewing machines and sewing related interests, psychology, IT - specifically Amadeus system and web design, writing, ancient Egypt, and homemade toiletries.

Mine tend to be psychology or medical related. I try to get everyone I know to take the MBTI personality test. I love observing and analyzing people. Others have been: animals (when I was a kid), Star Wars (when I was a preteen), various bands (Matchbox 20 and the White Stripes) when I was a teenager.

I do write fiction, but I wouldn't call that an obsession - I tend to think of obsessions, or 'special interests', as things I would love to talk to anyone about. I keep my writing to myself - I'd say it's more of a coping mechanism or an outlet.

Bloodheart, you sound like my best friend. I think I could probably teach a class on the female reproductive system due to listening to her 'lectures'. She sews a lot too.

For some reason, I've just had a major flashback to when I was in Jr. High, and my Mom trying to play amateur psychoanalyst on me, encouraging me to try harder to fit in, or asking me if I really, honestly, like myself, and, if I don't like myself, how can I expect others to like me?
Of course, I didn't like myself. Sheesh. And, if they only way I could like myself was to turn into a normal person, it wasn't gonna happen, was it?

My Mom's a very social type. She never met a stranger and had a wide group of friends and loved to socialize. I was even less interested in that as a kid than I am now.

BUT, on the realm of obsessive interests... I always had a book with me. I'd always have it open on my lap, and be reading all the time. I hated to put a book down once I'd gotten into it.

I went through phases; classic literature, sci-fi, fantasy, history, mythology, psychology.

My older sisster did help me out with that... every time I've gone through a psychology kick, she helps me analyze the people that we know. She said she studied human behavior a lot growing up as a coping mechanism to deal with the nutjobs in our life. I am with her. Even known I'll still go through kicks of behavioral analysis. Mostly observation, but, sometimes encouraging my closer friends to take the same profile tests I've taken so I can compare results.

I'm an obsessive sorter and trouble-shooter as well. If something is disorganized, I want to straighten it. If something is broken, I want to know why and fix it.

When I was 6, I was obsessed with the HazChem code. UK Aspies - you know the orange rectangle on the side of tanker lorries with the letters, numbers and symbols that tell emergency workers what to do after a spill's occurred? That thing. Completely obsessed. The psychologist who's been assessing me over the last few months (and has now diagnosed me) has informed me that that's not normal for a 6-year-old girl.

Canals, following a summer trip when I was 10. After that I could tell you how many locks were on each canal, how many and where the single-gate locks were... And everything I did at school the following year had canals into it wherever it was potentially possible (and probably even when it wasn't).

As a teenager I was really really into my football ("soccer" to those of you on the other side of the Atlantic) statistics. That tendency is still there and I think my mother is more resigned to it than anything else these days!

I am a lover of knowledge, if something involves researching ... people come to me to find the answer for them. That's fun. I picked up the logical and technical stuff (Ham Radio) directly from my Dad who I think was an undiagnosed Aspie (genius and inventor who built his first radio at 6).

Books, Tv Series such as Disney or ABC Family series, Writing, Computers, Researching psychology, horoscopes and education, ASL and my wonderful boyfriend as well as school and grades, Sometimes food.

See I never understood why they often say aspie girls are into literature and animals well more so literature. I hate literature, my mom tried for many yrs to get me to read and I never did. I rarely read anything fictional and stick to factual reading 99% of the time. Well that being said, some of my interests:

1) Health/Psychology, reality medical shows
2) Aspergers, social skills and how it affects me
3) Science, math, numbers, etc
4) Certain celebrity stuff, popular music
5) People obsessions
6) Scheduling

right now i'm obsessed with my troll boyfriend that i hope i never talk to again but other than that i'm obsessed with poetry and literature and writers that are dead, or apes still, since i was about 12 i had this obsession with great apes and monkeys, and i also like music and yoga, but lately this week i got into body building, lol
