Does anyone else get them too? What do you do about them?

Mine are real bad when it comes and after two days the cramps dies down. I take tylenol for my cramps and it goes away after a half hour. But because they seem to be getting worse now, I decided to go back on birth control. They helped a lot when I was on it and my periods weren't real heavy. I stopped taking it a year and a half ago and I did good without it but I am slowly starting to go back to the way my body was when I was in my early teens. All those cramps and heavy periods. What's next, hot flashes, being real emotional.

You might have something called endometriosis if the pain is becoming more severe over time. Ask your doctor about it, there are things they can do to help.

Try taking calcium. The cramps should go away about half an hour later if the calcium has an effect. It sounds stupid that a simple calcium pill can save you from all that cramp misery but it works for me and lot of other women.

I used to take birth control for the cramps too, but I stopped because I experienced some side effects that weren't worth it. Now I just take Ibuprofen, it works but not as well as it used to. I think I may be building up a tolerance to it. I need to find something stronger because sometimes my cramps are so bad I have to stay home from class.

I cry and winge in pain.

They were bad when I was a teen, I was rolling on the floor, crying. Then I got Motrin (before it was OTC), that helped. Then I had kids and they calmed down for years. NOW, I'm pre-menapausal and they are back with a vengance. However, after years of pain, I've grown used to it. I pop a Tylenol and call it a day. It may hurt for 20 min after the pill, but then they die down. Other than that, I don't do anything.

A daily magnesium supplement works for me. Without it I'm bed-ridden; with it I can work as normal.

Apparently 97% of women in the western world are deficient in magnesium.

I find that exercise is the best thing. It doesn't have to be intense, just get the circulation going. Also, cutting back on salt and caffeine is helpful.

Mine used to be so bad I doubled over in pain. However, after I began taking Dilantin to treat a seizure disorder, the cramps lessened considerably. Dilantin has the fringe benefit of being a blood thinning agent.

I usually only have cramps the first day, then they go away. Usually they're not super painful, just uncomfortable, and minor enough to ignore. I don't take pain pills unless they're bad, which is rare.

One other thing that helps is heat, now you can find heating pads that stick to the front of underwear.

I used to have terrible cramps when i was younger. The cure? I had a baby, lol. Now instead of cramps, i get debilitating migraines.

Gah. Mine are the worst. I actually have a note from my doctor so that I can take 4 advil to get rid of the pain. Nothing else works. On my second day I'm always doubled over in the morning unless I wake up aroung 4 am and take some meds.

Those work really well during the day, but one time I fell asleep wearing one and got a mild burn. Ouch.
At night I use an old-fashioned hot water bottle. It starts off really hot and helps get rid of the pain so I can fall asleep, but it gradually cools so that I don't get burns.

That's intense! Maybe you could get a prescription for Tylenol3 instead?

I don't usually get severe cramps, but heating pads always help. For me, fatigue is the worst part of the menstral cycle. I turn into a pissy zombie.
