How do you feel about sitting with your back toward the door?

What if you knew you are alone? Would you do it, or would you insist to turn the desk around?

Are you asking if we feel uncomfortable sitting with our back toward the door because we won't know who it is when someone comes in?

This is about your own feeling about it. Describe it.

Yes, your back to the door so it is not in your field if vision, and your computer screen is visible to whoever comes in.

It's never bothered me either way.

I remember at one place I worked at I told my boss that if I did sit facing the door there's a good chance I might just get up and walk through it.

I don't sit on chairs and I don't use a desk. I never could.

Back to the front door of the house?
That doesn't really work where I am.
I'd have to be sitting on a stone floor to do that.

Back to the door of a room?
Sure, no problem.
I've never even thought about that before.
I don't usually have my back to it but it wouldn't bother me.

Some of my rooms have two doors.
The room I'm in right now has three.

I wouldn't like it. I don't like being in any situation where I know my privacy could be suddenly compromised.

I had a similar problem in my last workplace, though there was no door involved. It was possible for people to come and stand behind me without my realising they were there. Most of the time there was nobody around. I often had web pages open on my computer that were nothing to do with my job. One time I wrote my diary at work, and this bloke must have seen some rather intimate details of my life. He never said anything, but I felt acutely embarrassed. Horrible experience.

I bought a tile made of mirror - about 8 inches square, and taped cardboard to make it stand up on my desk. Rearview mirror.

A closed door, I could manage, because I’d hear it open. I rely on sound at least as much as sight to monitor my environment (which also means I get antsy if my hearing is dampened in any way such as with earplugs or headphones, especially if anyone else is in the room). An open door or doorless frame makes me anxious if it isn’t in sight.

Yeah, they'd don't allow furniture in the rubber room anyway.

Seriously though, aren't you supposed to be a writer? Or just in your imagination?

? No compendre.

I read and write lying down with a laptop.

I have lots of sofas, bean bags, and a pillowfort.

When I used to work full time I was on my feet almost all day, 40+ hours a week.
I had a desk but if I had to sit I used a table and ergonomic chair.

Had to ask.

Anyway, I guess I forgot about Dalton Trumbo. He spent much of his career writing in a bathtub, though I challenge the accuracy of that, since spending a prolonged time in water daily does things to one's flesh (pictures that I won't post here).

That's cool - I didn't know about him.
I don't even like using my phone in the tub.

Many autistic people have difficulty with chairs.
Obviously I can physically sit on them, but it's extremely uncomfortable.
Even a comfy armchair is very uncomfortable for me.

I usually sit on the floor with or without a pillow, or I sprawl.
If I have to use a chair (even a formal one), I sit like a pretzel.
I have to put both feet up by my hip and lean to the side.
When I drive a car I have my foot on my thigh. (Whoops - likely illegal).

I guess my stroke didn't help because I don't have balance.
I can't walk a straight line without plowing into the wall.
I also lost strength in my torso from having so many operations.

Just picture me like a ragdoll.
Not the cat variety.

Never! In any situation I always fought to get the best spot in a room. Usually the one that gets the fullest view of the area. Surprisingly people usually let me have the best seat. They don't mind sitting with their backs to the open door and facing the wall. :D

I don't like it, with or without a computer, and will choose to sit differently when there's a choice. But when there's not, just gotta deal with it.
