The quirkification of autism strikes yet again!

For those unaware, there's a trend on YouTube where people basically compile their "vocal stims" - i.e. random clips they probably repeat - into a video.

Something about it rubs me the wrong way. I don't know, I just struggle with echolalia a lot, and it's caused me quite a bit of grief in my life, to see it watered down for some unfunny trend is... mildly annoying, to say the least.

I had to stop about 30 seconds into the video, it was like fingernails on a chalk board.

I'd like to know if the people who make these videos have ever stopped to think about e.g.

(a) why right-wing people like to say things like 'oh, these people are just pretending to be disabled so they can get attention and/or special treatment'
(b) why physically disabled people choose not to make videos of dragging themselves across the floor and making grunting noises

These people very much do not care about that. I doubt they can think beyond themselves or beyond the implications of their actions outside of their progressive bubble. It’s another example of Level 1 autistic people centering themselves at the apex of all autistic discourse, which is rightfully a topic of contention among Level 2 activists.

LOL, understandable. I’ve heard it’s a funny show; inline with a similar type of humor to Azumanga Daioh. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard.

I don’t think I’d be able to make one of these compilations, as while I do tend to repeat a lot of things from media, a lot of it is not exactly palatable to a general crowd.

I don't watch them.
Because they don't provide me valuable insight nor it suits to my needs and goals.

And I don't care enough to respond to such content.

I'm neither one of those audience;

I hypothesized, those late diagnosed or self diagnosed (very most likely NDs) who's on their way into unmasking and figuring out how to... A way to find their stims.

And it just looked like said certain self-diagnosed individuals (whether or not they are ND) and in a developmental phase to knowing where they belong to or is seeking where they do belong to (usually teenagers or those who are growing up with social belonging issues nonetheless) wanting to be in the quirky group...
Looked like they're the target audience or the audience that appeals the idea.

Another bit I could hypothesized is that stimming is this idea of a portrayal of what autistic 'should looked like'.

Which is the fault of those parents (maybe professionals even) with ideas and beliefs from decades ago (which can be literally contents from said decades ago), uploading said portrayals (along with meltdowns) with negative captions on how it's disrupting their kid and it disrupts them, or how they pity them for stimming and branding them as different (implying inferior) by not passing off as neurotypical.

Said association as a means to be 'identified' as an 'autistic'. :? In which those with imposter syndrome are trying to combat.

Or a way to reclaim said portrayals by having NT passing adults or some teenagers portray them in the internet, an attempt to normalized external expressions of stimming without shane.

Who knows?
It does not appeal to anyone who dislikes looking at anyone who do not pass as NT and thinks it's a way to portray these people wanna be special, nor anyone who cannot pass as NT and do not feel safe or feel nothing but shame with not being to mask it.

And I'm neither of these types of people.

I deadass just made this account today to day this- I personally love these compilations... I have raging ADHD to the point of it turning into autism, and for the longest time I had no idea wtf was wrong with me, it was that bad. And I never realized that a lot of the random s**t that comes from my mouth is a vocal stim- These compilations typically have all the stims that I repeat and tbh- its just nice to see. I think its a bit scummy to both call it a "trend" and say it's "quirkification" This "trend" doesn't even exist to the general public, like, at all. Im just now finding out about it and I consume youtube on a daily 24/7 basis. The "Quirkification" aspect I dont even think you could call it that, cus- at least for me, 100% of my Echolalia is memes, videos, and internet quotes like the ones in the vids. its just nice to know that theaters other people out there that share these same issues and the videos TO ME ae like jingling keys, which I very much love and enjoy seeing. :3

the vids scratch a deep itch I otherwise cant get to. Im glad I found them

My echolalia mainly consists of memes as well, so I get it. I don't know... I just find the whole thing to be corny, but I see where you're coming from.
