the chances of me being somehwere where there is dancing is pretty slim. but when i worked i hated parties, apart from the socialising, i was very self conscious about dancing and would avoid it. is that a common thing ? i'm female so it seemed odd to people cause mostly its men who dont dance

I'm a girl too and NO WAY! I cannot dance at all and, even when I think I'm doing okay, my friends laugh at me  I have been known not to care though when drunk.

I dance in my room or at discos. I'm not good at it, but it's a bit of fun.
I really want to do "fitness pole" dance classes for some reason.

I don't like dancing because I'm uncoordinated and I get board easily. I much prefer to bounce around and push people in mosh pits, I also like jumping up and down and headbagging. The only club I go to in my city is the one that exclusively plays heavy metal and rock music, I hate it when my friends drag me to places where people actually dance. :?

I like to dance.

True dancing is choreographed and graceful. What people do in clubs is not dancing, that's just spastic wriggling used as a social interaction by those not intelligent enough to carry on real conversation.

Gene Kelly - now that was a dancer.

I'd warp my spine in half a minute trying stuff like that.

I don't dance. I was never interested even though I seem to have the hidden talent.

I love to dance! Usually I do it at home, but dancing is one of the best ways for me to feel comfortable around people. Good exercise, too.

I like to dance sometimes, but I get bored if I do it too long or if the music is all the same. Plus if the music is too loud it bothers me.

I genuinely tried a few times, and I was AWFUL. I can barely walk anyway. Why try dancing? :?

I wear earplugs when I go to night clubs. :alien:

I do Medieval/Renaissance dancing with my local SCA group. If I try to do any sort of modern dancing I look like this . . .

I think the kind of dancing I do is probably one the best forms for an aspie. It's highly choreographed, often not very fast, and physical contact with your partner is usually minimal (a gentle laying of the ladies hand on the lords upturned palm is the usual).

I used to tap dance. I was pretty good (got to the highest level in the dance school and won competitions), but I did have a tendency to fall over my own two feet a lot when learning new steps. I don't do hip shaking, shimmying, head banging, etc, etc, etc, though. I find it somewhat degrading and embarrassing, and it's fine if other people are comfortable with it, but I'm not going to participate.

Ha, me too. I love to dance, actually, but not in clubs. I usually don't like the music, and I don't like being hit on by random drunk men.

I disagree with you. Rather, two different types of dancing. I'm good at the unchoreographed kind because it doesn't require coordination. A sense of rhythm I have, coordination, not so much. I'm awful at "true dancing", but enjoy the other kind.

And I can assure you, I'm plenty intelligent enough to carry on a real conversation, that any difficulties with conversation are not related to intelligence, and the dancing I do, your "spastic wriggling", is not for me a social interaction, but rather, a response to the music.
