After you watch it, cut and paste this message. Email it to everyone
you know, post it on websites, forums etc. Or, make your own video
and upload it to begin raising money for charity.

Let's do it
The video is called "Micheal's World". My response there went like...

No thank you.

I'm not even sure - I may have contributed? Does just watching the video cause me to contribute? I had to watch it twice. I didn't see a "contribute here" button.

I note that the "Therapy Schedule" allows him just 5 minutes for lunch on Thursdays, and totals to 35 hours and 25 minutes overall. Whew! Poor kid.

Overall the video seemed quite pleasant. However, he looks rather terrified at certain points during it - especially throughout the sequence where someone is pushing a camera into his face when he's in bed (normally, for most, a "safe" place).

In some shots, Michael appears to be being held in place for the picture. Maybe I'm over-reacting?

I'm just about totally unable to decipher lyrics (of anything - I listen to the music, the words become noise. That's just me). What do they say?

Finally, all the comments on the video are gushing praise. Does this mean that the less than complimentary ones get deleted? I'm tempted to add this as a comment, but I'm a wimp.

Music is noise! Loud sounds annoy me.

I would go $0.49 British or American if they would stop polluting the sound spectrum.

How about a home for failed Rockers? Soundproof.

35 hours? Each aultie a full time job for a Therapist? No change is five years but they have hope?

Payroll, overhead, say $50 an hour, now I see why they speak.

i think this is just a chain mail thing and thus BS... ie- it's not generating money, but is serving as advertisement in a way...

i don't really like autism speaks (the whole "find a cure" deal) and can understand a lot of the resentment associated with it... but it should be understood that this campaign (supporting autism speaks) is a good thing because it does contribute to financing a lot of scientific research on autism...

i work in a neuro department and all the labs here that research autism seem to be associated with autism speaks (i mean that autism speaks seems to fund at least a portion of the lab's research)...

though via talking to the researchers in person, i get the feeling they don't really know about some of the commercials that i've seen directly put out by autism speaks... you know, the ones we all know and hate: mother admitting she'd like to drown her autistic daughter, blah blah blah...

so whatever you think of autism speaks... realize that some good comes out of it. and not all research is geared towards finding a cure... simply having knowledge of how something works is vital to helping those already with it...

so in this sense... i kinda support autism speaks... i just have issues with their methods of advertisements... think they go a little extreme in some of their views... but meh, how else to you get your point across to the masses (that for the most part, are idiots)?

I'm going to send them 49 cents worth of manure, as long as they pay the shipping. :P

For me, it worked the opposite. I lost all respect for research funded by them (in part or whole) and the Neurologists involved. That was the end of me even thinking of going to a Neurologist for a diagnosis. They are not going to fund anything that puts any positive light on Autism because they have an agenda. Instead, what will happen is that they will hold research ransom and look for a slant to further there goals. You work in the field (as does my brother) so you know that funding and grants are very political. They go in to prove their theories and they won't get money for theories that don't back Autism Speaks' agenda. Aftetr all, the idiot mother and her boss run that organization so they won't be giving money to researchers who don't say what they want to hear because they have control of approval. That doesn't get it for me, although I'm completely aware that all research works this way.

I nearly did remove/break the link, but then I would have had to remove the "quote" attribution. I refuse to tamper with quoted material(footnote), unless I make it wildly clear that I have, and I thought that might get to be excessive.

Footnote: Well... I'll tamper with quotes for a joke, maybe, but this stuff really isn't that funny? :)

Why does everyone say that Autism Speaks wants to cure autism? I read nothing on their website about curing autism.

When they don't want to cure Autism, they make movies telling the world how they thought for 15 minutes about drowning their own child because putting her in a class with 12 students to a teach was just unbearable. Do you hear the whine in this?

I guess drowning your child does effectively cure the Autism as well as the child.

The only thing those people will ever get from me is spit in their face. They disgust me.

Ha, I love how none of us have voted for donating. I have no problems donating to most charities, and I think that it's nice that Five for Fighting is at least trying (it's a rare thing these days, because we should all be Scientologists and whatnot). However, I dissaprove of Autism Speaks, especially because of their videos.
Sadly, it's the only autism charity that most people have heard of.
