How have people discovered you're autistic without you telling them? I remember my mom told certain parents about my diagnosis. The parents blabbed to the kids and the kids thought it was good to blab to everyone else.

Yes. Some of my family have told other people without me knowing they told them. At first I was upset about it but now I don't mind it.

Nobody has ever "discovered" that I'm on the Spectrum. They have only discovered that I'm weird.

I've had an ex nurse, a social worker, and also my closest friend tell me they suspected I had autism or am an Aspie. And it was at separate times in my life. Based on behavior characteristics and how I reacted and or failed in certain situations.

I'm not even diagnosed and was in my 20's all 3 occasions. So, they may be onto something.

The common response I receive is: "I am so sorry".

If I had any self-esteem, I would question their utterly thoughtless reactions.

Two people discovered I might be. A person whose name was on my paycheck during the late '90's I should have listened but I thought he was bullying me. My sister who works with Autistics, I listened to her.

Ever since kindergarten, people have been wondering about me, - thought, there was something wrong, - tried to figure me out.
It was the neighbour, who one day teased me:"aspie" - and told me why. It turned out, he was right :D

I was once told at work that I was the Hellen Keller of the office, after showing them stuff I was doing that they thought was amazing. Not entirely sure what that meant exactly.

LOL a friend of the family who was openly autistic/aspie's mother said: you two get along very well! Have you ever thought you might be on the spectrum? and later on with: "Oh! You sound so autistic!" she said it in a intrigued and interested way.

Welp, she was right! Of course with all the autism shame everyone vehemently denied it and said I was "too normal for that"

So funny I remember wishing someone would diagnose me with autism so I would have an explanation as to why I was such a "freak". haha. Makes me laugh to think about it now.

I've had several people tell me they suspected I was on the spectrum (on the top of my mind I can think of a teacher and a classmate). I asked why but they didn't give very detailed responses. They just told me I had a lot of the mannerisms common to autistic people.

Some have (well, they 'knew' to the point where me disclosing was met with a "i knew it" response); but those either were on the spectrum themselves, worked with those on the spectrum or had close family on the spectrum: they knew what to look for.

Devilkisses, I am not sure exactly what you are asking in your original post question but my Autism was discovered three and a half years ago. I had no idea and neither did anyone in my family. I was pulled aside by a friend who told me I was on the Spectrum. That was the first time I had heard of it. I was diagnosed two years later.

That's what happened to me too. A girl in my class had a younger brother who was severely Autistic, and so my mum got friendly with her mum and obviously told her mum that I had Asperger's, and then the girl told everybody in my class because I know she did, and then it made everybody think I had some sort of contagious disease or something and so made them afraid to be a close friend to me because of this label.
