Getting a " fake GED "/etcetera .

I am carrying over something from elsewhere , that a bunch of people are telling me that I should deal with the tie-up of my HS records/HS-era records by getting what I will call " a fake GED " ~ That , ,although i graduated from high school (Horace Greeley High School , in Chappaqua , NY) in the standard manner , and it is simply that a gigantically f**ked-up buruucartic(Sp) tie-up (to put it simply) has the HS apparently refusing to send me my HS/and era records (Apparently ~ To get this out of the way, PERHAPS my records f-up is die to a woman originally from Seattle who spent MONTHS stringing me along on " I'll get you your records " ~ or some other f-ed up reason ~ that said , we now return ~) ~
You are telling me that , though I have a HS diploma , I should go to night school/whatever and get a phony GED - meaning that , although I have a HS diploma ,I should simply pretend I do not , and , crippled , etc. at 56 years old , I should PRETEND I didn't graduate from HS (because I REALLY DON'T THINK that GED places will accept someone who said " I have a HS diploma but the school won't send it to me , so I'll pretend I don't have a HS diploma , 'mmmkay ? " . I think they would say " Sorry, you can't do it twice ") , and go to night school for the next two years, just so I can have a piece of paper . I have an HS diploma , and if someone would just HELP ME , and get it untied from bereuacracy-land(Sp) , I could apply to college , but because you saw some daytime PBS TV drama about someone who got their GED , I should PRETEND TO BE SOMEONE I'M NOT , and LET HORACE GREELEY HIGH SCHOOL RAPE ME SOME MORE ,and dedicate the next two years of my life to PRETENDING I don't have an HS diploma , When I do ! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

And , TO GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY , this is not a put-down of people who truly do not have a HS diploma , and go to night/whatever school school to get one . That's good . That is not my situation .
I have one . I have little else , but I have one .
I do not want to go to night school for the next two years to get A PHONY GED , beause NO ONE (apparently) WILL HELP ME DIG UP MY RECORDS .
And , Kraftiekortie , you told me a long time you'd try to get my records .
It appears you called Greeley once,left a message , maybe made one follow-up , nothing else ~ What , it's professional couretesy (Sp.) among paper/pixel-pushers .
I have been writing this with my eyes semi-fucked up ,from the sun-over-exposure ~ I don't know that this letter will make any f****n' sense , either , if you haven't read my prior posts on this supject .
But why do you all want me to drag my semi-(??) crippled , old , body to get a fake GED , rather than finding my actual records ?
Because , again , it would make a really keen scenario for a made-for-TV movie ?

Why don't you take a sample test? Maybe you don't have to go to night school for two years.

Most GED courses aren't two years, anyway. They are like three months or so.

Maybe you could pass it right now. Maybe you don't need to take a course.

I am looking for my paperwork (pixelwork) . I want my EXISTING HS diploma stuff/related untied ~ I don't feel the need to get a new one ! !! !! !! !! !!

Why don't you call , please , someone who is ACTUALLY in the GED class business , and tell her (I presume it to be a " her ") ~

I don't know how he would enroll , how he would pay for the class itself , how he'd pay for the needed books & tech that would , of course , be obsolete soon as he graduated or how to convince him to be enthusiastic , or drag his (Semi-??) crippled self to the classes ~ And , he thinks it's an awful idea and just wants his existing records , silly he , he cries and yearns for them ~ What do you say ? I think that for me to take a GED class would also be taking away a spot in one for someone who wants and needs it ! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! Like maybe some of my old (county) ex-con buds from Santa Cruz , if they , too , made their way up to San Fran somehow...

I'm sorry ASS-P that things aren't going to plan. By no means a GED might have some stigma related to it, For it is the things drop-outs get. I think SocofAutism got a GED. She still is going to college, so There is no problem with a GED.. For a GED stands for General Equivalency Diploma. Though I can't imagine that Since you have graduated from, High school I couldn't imagine it being that difficult..

OP, you're in an autistic meltdown. You get that right? So your brain isn't really working properly.

First, you have to get your nervous system to calm the F down.

Secondly, your have to put your best bureaucrat skills in place here. Its been 30 some years since those files have been accessed, right? So its not surprising that someone thinks they might be lost forever.

The thing that I've found works with bureaucrats is to keep calling until you find someone who gives you a better answer. Each person will tell you that they know the truth. But what I've found is that usually, you will get a different "truth" with each different person you talk to. So call again tomorrow. Find someone new to talk to.

But this is the imperative thing. You HAVE to use all your polite skills. You are asking some bored desk worker to go out of their way to process an unusual request for you. It doesn't matter that this is their job. From their point of view, you are asking a big favor. If you keep pretending, at least, to be super friendly and polite and appreciative, you are more likely to find someone who will help you.

I know you said that the person you talked to said their is no record for you. But I doubt that is true. There is usually a record. Its just harder to find when its old. 30 years - that puts it before computers. Someone is going to have to go down into a dusty file room somewhere.

The other avenue you can pursue is to talk to the people at the collage you want to attend. Remember, they don't get your money if you can't take their courses, so they are motivated to help. It might be that there is someone on staff who can help with cases like yours. Remember again to get your body calm, and to ask them with an attitude of great friendliness, even if you have to fake it. Be polite and persistent and things will work out for you.

And then, come back here and complain to your hearts content about how awful this is and how incompetent they are. We are not going to be in the way of your collage goals.

I graduated from my standard home-town high school , um , many years before you were born .
I do not need a GED . I simply need copies of my HS diploma , and my other HS-era records !
GEDs are for when you did not get an HS diploma at the standard time .
A number of other people , as I have tried , above , to humorously point out , seem to have this idea that I should get a new HS diploma ~ As I also said above I do not think that a person who has a HS diploma ~ which I do - I simply need new copies of it and the other records - can even get one !

...I am homeless and I don't have a phone , or a computer of my own (I have more access to phones than computers , actually - still not " my very own " ) - I cannot do that stuff . I NEED HELP .

Calm your nervous system first. Nothing is possible until you get that taken care of. Our brains turn off when this happens. We literally have decreased activity in our pre-frontal cortex when we are in meltdown. So the first thing to do is always to take care of the meltdown.

You can write the GED exams without actually taking any GED classes.

But I understand your frustration. You shouldn't have to write the GED when you've already got a high school diploma.

Homelessness certainly does suck big-time here in the land of Anarcho-Capitalist Police-State U.S.A. Keeping healthy under those such conditions is also very difficult (let alone trying to find a place to sleep properly).
How are you currently getting by financial-wise ? Are you eating in a healthy manner ? I hope you are.

With the limited access to Internet that you do have, perhaps you can post in a Community Section, explaining your situation, and that you need help getting onto Social-Security and Food-Stamps if not receiving them already.

For the sake of your health, depending on if you have an EBT-Account or not, considering that you do still have access to the Internet, you could possibly explain your situation on Craig's List in the Community Section of your local area, requesting that anybody who is knowledgeable in the area of healthy foods cook you the type of foods that you need so that you can avoid getting sick from being potentially forced to buy the cheap and very unhealthy foods to eat due to your situation, and in exchange you would use or let them use your EBT-Card to buy whatever necessary food that they need to be able to help you, thus somewhat sharing and pooling your resources a bit.

One thing I believe about America is that this is a land where it should be near-impossible to starve to death due to the amount of resources that exist on these land-masses. How-ever, much of the food is not healthy, and so I would have to stress that anybody you try to co-operate with on cooking is well-educated on the effects of nutrition on health (a thread currently exists called : Diet is more important than exercise).

Your health is Number One. MOST important part of you to protect. For, when healthy enough, you can obtain alternate academic-qualifications, for free, from on-line courses, even from respected and legitimate educational-institutions, such as MIT, and there are also a variety of free courses from Alison.Com that offer Certifications in several subject-categories, just to name a couple. Why stop at HS-Dip/GED-levels ?

Anyway, your health is the most important thing to protect right now, otherwise I understand that your economic-position makes it difficult to access a computer for very long without having your own laptop to go to a Wi-Fi-Enabled Public-Library. Get help getting healthy if you can and the rest becomes easier.
