This is where obsessions can come in handy. :) On occasions, being an Aspie has helped me do stuff too. :P

I'm happy to be an Aspie because I believe it makes me more sensitive to pleasure and joy. At least I've always thought so :-)
I'm also happy to be an Aspie simply because I enjoy being me, and I am an Aspie, so... :-)

Probably sounds conceited! I don't care. :P

It helps me do my job well and makes me compassionate toward my pets.

I am glad I am a Aspie, because I can educate people about parrots and how to properly care for them.
I am so obsessed with parrots, that just by looking at a picture I can tell exactly what species is what.

... because today someone at work was away ill and a job they have been doing has become very urgent and had to be taken over by someone. The files were in good order but there were boxes and boxes of them, and working through them and finishing off the report was going to take several hours with no time to spare for a break or anything. No problem.

I'm glad I'm an Aspie today, because I'm a 27 year old running my own business which--despite 5 massive setbacks in its first year--is still puttering along, and slowly growing and gaining popularity...

and without being Autistic, I probably wouldn't have thought of half the ideas for our business that I did--not to mention currently classified ones we haven't put into practice quite yet.

I'm also glad I'm an Aspie because because so helps me come up with economic and philosophical theories that totally changed how I viewed most things in the world that the majority I try to explain it to still can't comprehend no matter how basic I try to describe it.

I'm glad to be me. :)

In uni I stayed up the night before each exam and memorising all the material. I got a degree by doing this but now struggle to remember a single thing I was taught. I'm not bad at blackjack either.

I saw one of the friends I went on the camping/road trip with. He gave me a big hug and listed a bunch of things that he thought were amazing about the trip, and told me it had totally made his summer.

A funny thing on the trip was that it was a high altitude experiment, and we wanted to camp above 10,000' the first night, but the campgrounds don't take reservations. We worked our way from campground to campground, all full, lower and lower. We pulled into one at 8,500', and I was bummed cuz that's too low to really help much with acclimatization, and then I saw it was Aspen Campground. And we got the last space - #13! How's that for auspicious serendipity!

So I'm glad I'm an aspie today because I have a special way of thinking about my friends that sometimes creates a 'perfect moment'.

...because I have insight and ideas into computer programming that others don't have.

...because I can learn fiddling styles quickly.

...because I emanate "different" and others find this intriguing.

This is an affirmation thread. Post things that happened today that make you glad to be aspie.

My rugby club sponsored the national women's 7s rugby championship tournament this weekend. A beer company had donated a canopy but it was a badly designed kit with a bazillion parts. Five of my team-mates had been struggling trying to put it together, following the instructions, but they had a lot of leftover pieces they couldn't figure out, and were just going to leave out (bad idea). I saw what they were doing, laughed, and put it together correctly, without looking at the instructions, in 5 minutes.

I'm glad Im aspie today because I can use my special abilities to help my friends.

Cool. So you would be the go-to guy to put together Ikea furniture. Actually, a lot of people make jokes about figuring out how to put Ikea furniture together but they do a pretty good job. Their instructions are pretty easy to follow. I remember once my mom bought me this desk from a department store and it was suppose to be "easy to assemble". It was a nightmare. We spent like 4 hours putting it together. At least we didn't have any left over parts.

I'm not sure what my special talent is. I thought it was computers but I feel pretty mediocre. I love to research things on the internet but that doesn't seem very special.

Because I'm a free thinker and a free speaker. I live independently, which is something that I've looked forward to, in my teens. I'm free to be my own person, and live life as I please, just as long as I don't hurt anybody. I'm not afraid to walk around with my hair spiked different colours and let people know that I'm the rebel who's into UK Punk. I've acquired a Cockney accent by the forces of nature at the age of three, and picked up a Routemaster obsession by choice. I don't follow the herd mentality. I respect all life and all people, whether they have any sort of disability
or not. I don't feel the need to be a part of the cooperate world, because I'm not obsessed with social status. I don't have the want or the need to obsess about celebrities. I can also block out the negativity of the younger sheep around me.

I'm glad I have an ASD because it's helping me get my work done this week. I have so much to write, and I'm writing it all. I can't believe how much I did yesterday and today. I can concentrate when I need to, like I used to be able to. (Finally I'm getting back to my old ability to concentrate, after 2 or 4 years of finding it excruciating and the last 2 of those 4 years being on meds.)
