It's Ohrwurm, which sounds similar to the literal English translation of "Ear Worm".

This is because your brain likes everything that's familiar, so when it recognises the song.
It also works with certain music styles, the only reason people like or don't like a certain music style is because of their (lack off) experiance with it.
Try listening to a song you don't like, delete all other music from your mp3 player and only listen to that for a week or so. You'll end up liking the song (or at least hating it less, depending on your sensitivity for music)

I have not watched the full song. This actually scares me and makes me feel very weird.~

She had every right to listen to this song and dance,

Does anyone have a music obsession where they can listen to the same song over and over like a billion times and still not get sick of it? Its been like that to me the whole last 4 months. I have no idea why =)

Oh yes, I love listening to the same song over and over! People say "how can you stand listening to the same song that many times without getting sick of it?" There's certain parts of the song I listen for and sound like heaven to my ears! I also love singing along at the top of my lungs. That's the funnest part of all!

I've been doing that ever since early childhood.

I used to copy the same song 10 to 20 times onto a cassette tape and listen to it over and over again. Thank god for CD players and ipods.

Through the years my tastes have changed but the story stays the same... great music truely sooths the soul.

I used to do the cassette tape thing too when I was a kid. I frequently have just one song playing over and over on my mp3 player.

i don't think it's quite that way. If I listen to a song I don't like, I will continue not to like it. On the other hand, I do like songs that I like in the first place a lot better when they become familiar. Whenever my favorite band puts out a new album, I get really anxious listening to their new songs until I get to know them, and I only really love a song once it's familiar. And I do what the OP does as well, listen to the same song over and over, or a handful of songs.

I do this too. But there also have been songs that at first I don't particularly think I like then end up really liking them after hearing it some more or letting it sink in.

That makes sense, but then I think about awful pop music, like Britney Spears for instance (no offense to anyone who likes her) and I can't imagine learning to like it. You hear the latest pop music all the time even without meaning to, so it does become somewhat familiar even if you're not trying to familiarize yourself with it, but do you get to like it?

I have quite a strong tendency to do this as well, though alot of people do that I would consider it normal when one has found a song that one likes. It depends how long one plays the song on repeat though.

When I find a song I usually put it on rewind and listen to it perhaps for a few hours during a day, the day I have found it usually. However I in addition have a very strong tendency to only listen to selected pieces of a song when I listen to it alone.

Lets say a song that I think it ok runs for 4 minutes, but within those 4 minutes there is one part of perhaps 30-40 seconds that I find excellent then I will often rewind that part while listening to the song or only listen to that selected part.

When I used to study I had to walk about 1 hour in order to get to university each way and it was far from uncommon that I could actually walk for one hour listening to perhaps a 50 sec segment all the time as I rewinded it constantly.

Also I had an Creative mp3 player that kept record over my most played songs, I only had it for a bit less then a year i remember my most played song was played over 4500 times in that period, but to my defence it was a short song.

Also I am REALLY picky about music and I notice subtle differences like power in striking strings and keys on piano which however subtle easily makes me chose one recording of a song in front of another.

Another obsession that I have in the way of music is YouTube. I listen to that, when I'm not listening to my CDs or records. I get variety and control when I'm on YouTube. :)

I've done this ever since I had any interest in music. I've often had a 'song of the moment', and it tends to stick with me for a good 1-2 weeks, on average. During these periods, I'll either listen to a particular song exclusively, or listen to very little other than that song.

Of course, I'm not always involved in such a period. It's certainly not uncharacteristic for me to have as many as two or three 'songs of the moment', but, as a general rule, I tend to get stuck on a particular track (or selection of tracks) for quite some time.

My current 'song of the moment' is an old favourite, which I have played again and again all through this evening:

On a more extreme level, I have been known to get stuck on particular snippets of songs, rewinding back repeatedly just to hear the same part of a song.
A memorable example would be my fixation with the first few seconds of 'End of the Night', which took place in mid-'08. I remember just lying there and putting the song back to the beginning, over and over again...

I did eventually get around to listening to the rest, which became a 'song of the moment' in its own right. :P
