The 60s had good pop music. Swing and big band music from the first half of the 20th century was also good. I mostly can't stand mainstream pop from the 70s or later.

As for hip-hop, I can enjoy some of the beats but the lyrics ruin most of it. I like electronic music that shares certain elements of hip-hop culture; namely reggae/dub, jungle, drum n' bass, breakcore/IDM, and trip-hop. These genres are all chiefly British in origin. Mainstream American rap and hip-hop usually annoys me.

Hip-hop yes, pop not so much (except for that odd occasion).

I thinks it more that NTs are more inclined to Pop than that aspies are disinclined to Pop, it all about the herd mentality.

I thought it was funny too. Most of the OP's threads today have been "can/do/are aspies thus and such"

However, under the guise of taking this topic seriously...I listen to a little bit of everything. My iPod is well-rounded. I like Blue October, Imogen Heap, Flyleaf, Evanescence, Florence and the Machine, Disturbed, Taylor Swift, Blink-182, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, OneRepublic, Alison Krauss, Alicia Keys, A Day to Remember, Otep, Seether, Eels, Dido, Flo Rida, Fort Minor, Linkin Park, Katy Perry, Korn, Lady Gaga, Matchbox 20, Marilyn Manson, and on and on and on. I also like classical music, my favorite modern composer is Akira Yamaoka.

All I have on my iPod is System of a Down, but my music tastes are far wider, I just haven't bothered to get anything else.

Since when does having your own enjoyments make you an Aspie? Who's to say NTs all like pop or hip-hop? My NT friend loves Sean Paul, and he does reggae or ska.

Personally I like march, reggae, ska, country, and pop. I don't associate that on having AS, it's just what I like.

Sean Paul is hardly reggae, and doesn't even remotely resemble ska. If anything he's dancehall/ragga/pop.

It isnt an aspie thing to like pop, or any specific kinds of music. Musical tastes are as widely dispersed among aspies as much as they are among the general population.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I thought it was interesting you mentioned enjoying high energy places. Ever heard the saying "if you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism." being diagnosed doesn't mean you meet a cookie cutter list of symptoms. It means out of a huge HUGE list of potential symptoms, you demonstrate enough to qualify you as being in the spectrum, a WP'dian!

That said, I like just about everything, from abba to zombie. It just depends on the mood I'm in, but usually I listen to moby, uriah heep, nightwish, lady ga ga, ELP, ELO, Elton John, manilow, Streisand, and just about any classical. At night I have my iPod set to pandora radio an play ambient music real softly while I sleep. I like movie soundtracks also.

Don't worry, I laughed too.

I love hip hop. Don't mind pop. Britney Spears would definitely get it as well, that girl is looking fine these days.

As others mentioned, I don't think the type of music you like has anything to do with AS. Personally I like many different types of music, it just depends on my mood, goes from gothic metal, heavy metal, symphonic, classical, latino, etc.

Speaking of music here's a good one
