Can you imagine things very clearly in your head
I describe myself as a visual person, as I tend to hold on to clear images in my head. Places I've visited, street layouts etc, although I'm not good at remembering people out of context. If I'm trying to solve a practical problem then I'll see it in my mind and work it through til I find a solution.
I can visualise things clearly in my head when people describe them to me, and that's sometimes a bit disturbing, especially when they're describing an injury or suchlike!
Also, I have issues with the text abbreviations like pmsl, lmao etc as I can see in my head the action they describe - not pleasant! Guess that's just part of the literal interpretation aspect of autism tho
Yes, I can create visual images in my mind, these can move or interact with other images, be altered, are in color, and "usually" have physics based properties, or very close approximations. The detail can be down to the miniscule, and the "realness" of how vivid it is can be as or sometimes more vivid than real life. It takes some serious concentration to get it that real though, although sometimes I just "fall" into some mood where it kind of happens automatically...ie daydream like trance things.
If I study a schematic or blueprint, I can mentally assemble a machine or some equipment, and then mentally run it. I can tell with very high accuracy whether it will work and how well, isolate any issues, and create alternatives to allow it to function better, modify the mental construct and then test it.
I can generally break an object down in my head into its constituent parts to determine what all it is made from, or likely made from. And determine how those pieces of the whole interact. Essentially, I reverse engineer in my head all the time.
If I could not do this, I would not have the professional success I have, I don't believe. Visual thinking is key to most anything I do at work.
When I read, I'm also watching a movie in my mind.
It is also recreationally enjoyable too.
I don't visually think at all. Not one bit, not even if I try to force it. Though I am not a verbal thinker eiither. I best fit the definition of math thinker. Here is how it is decsribed by Temle Grandin:
"Music and math thinkers think in patterns. These people often excel at math, chess, and computer programming. Some of these individuals have explained to me that they see patterns and relationships between patterns and numbers instead of photographic images. As children they may play music by ear and be interested in music. Music and math minds often have careers in computer programming, chemistry, statistics, engineering, music, and physics. Written language is not required for pattern thinking. The pre-literate Incas used complex bundles of knotted cords to keep track of taxes, labor, and trading among a thousand people."
