I'm in my 40's, happily married for 23 years and have 4 children. My doctor took me very seriously and also suspected I have AS just from one discussion. They were happy to refer me and funding has been approved despite the considerable cost to them. So yes, there is a very good chance your doctor will take you seriously.

Hi.

Our experiences both seem very alike.
I dont fit in well in society but can make it look like I fit perfectly. I have serious anxiety and social issues and I went to all sorts of counselling, doctors, etc for years, without anyone knowing or realising anything was different about me. All the medical professionals said I was completely normal no matter what I said to them.
Like you, I had also completed a Masters, and was/ still am in full time employment, however it is much below what I am qualified to do.
I only learned about aspergers by chance on the internet and arranged for a diagnositic appointment with a specialist myself. I studied the topic in great detail and I was convinced I had it or something related to it. I did mention it to a physchiarist I was seeing at the time and to a couple of my friends & family, but I got laughed at on all fronts.(Physchiarist thought I may have BPD but I didnt agree, I felt aspergers was a better fit)
I was eventually diagnosed with atypical autism, which I think means that I don't have all the traits to be fully diagnosed with aspergers but I am on the spectrum.
I think it is definitely worth talking to a doctor. Perhaps you could also be atypical if you have some but not all the traits of aespergers
Hope this helps :)
