I get that feeling too. Yet anytime i get a haircut, they always want to cut my hair short and off my ears/neck. (I am male so they think i need it close-cropped :x )

Yes, I don't like getting a hair cut either. It has been over 12 months now, so I have to go soon unfortunately.

I don't like the talk, they same more like interrigations to me. I don't like seeing myself in the mirror while having the hair cut. And as mentioned by someone earlier, it is not cheap. I rather buy new set of strings or some new reed stuff instead.

Like others have said, I cut my own hair. Making small talk was my least favorite part of the entire process. Also, I hate the idea of paying someone for something I can easily do.

I wear my hair long, have done so for the last 10+ years. I don't like chatting with barbers, if I cut my hair I do it myself. Whatever, I'll probably go bald one day so I may as well ride it out.

Ahahaha - this!

For a couple years when I just couldn't afford to spend money on haircuts I buzzed my hair off with clippers myself.

I've never been bothered by haircuts, though. I like the look and feeling of a fresh proper haircut.

I tend to wait 2-3 months between them because I'm cheap. But lately I've wanted to make a bit better impression on others and decided I'd get my hair cut a little more often vs. let it get to the point where it looks like I really need a haircut. No one has ever really commented and said that, and people here have all sorts of hair styles and lengths so it's not as if everyone else' hair is military short and I let mine look unkept.. but still, I want to look & feel good, so I get it cut when I feel the need to vs. having any worries that others may think I'm looking a little rough.

I know some guys who are so OCD about their hair that they get it cut every couple weeks or so. F that lol I wouldn't want to pay for it. The place I go to most often now charges $18 w/ tax so I pay $20 w/ a tip. I'd say that's probably just an average price-ish. I've seen some places advertise prices ~$10, and know that there are shops downtown that charge $35-40 for a men's haircut, so I figure paying $20 to the nice Lebanese barbers I go to, who are very fast and good at what they do, is fair.

While I can afford to get my hair cut more often, I'm still too cheap to get it done any more often than I feel I need to, though. Besides, if you get it done too often then there isn't much of a visual impact and I doubt I'd feel that same boost in looking and feeling good.

I might have worded it wrong. I meant that I DON'T like having long hair, having had long hair once or twice before. I find it very irritating to have the wind blow it around and the way it brushes the back of my neck and forehead in the wind. It's also more of a pain in the ass to wash since it's like washing a mop when my hair is long. For me it's better to go to a quick and quiet barber once a month and deal with the haircut as the lesser of two evils.

I think I understood you correctly, you don't like having long hair (for all the reasons you mentioned, including sensory issues), but you don't like getting haircuts either. While I don't like getting haircuts either, but I like having long hair, and what brings sensory issues for me is feeling the air/wind on my ears, feeling my hair doesn't bring sensory issues for me, its quite the opposite, it feels good. If I was forced to get a short haircut, I would probably wear either earmuffs or a hat that covers my ears most the time. I do understand what you mean about the annoyance of having to wash long hair tho lol it must be nice to be able to keep your hair short. (p.s. if you like your hair very short, you could get a hair clipper, its really easy to use, you don't have to be good at haircuts)

Okay, I got it now. I misread part of it on the first go-around.

Now imagine this, on top of the fact that I never liked getting a haircut (I don't even like the feeling of a stranger touching me, I told my husband a few times to not ever get me one of these "fantastic and relaxing" massages for my birthday because I won't go lol), and that I too am uncomfortable with a hairdresser who feels he/she has to make conversation the whole time:

The last time I went to a hairdresser he told me that I looked "depressing" (probably because I don't smile much unless I thought something was funny, I don't have much energy, and I can be pretty pale sometimes).

The time just before that, my now ex-husband was with me, and the whole time the gay hairdresser was hitting on him while making demeaning comments about me (and women in general) LOL. That was so much fun ... not.

For me, it's not so much the hairdresser that's the problem as the sensory issues I have always had with getting a haircut ever since I was little:

♧ The clippers send shivers down my spine whenever they go near my neck;
♧ the hair that falls on my skin feels like little needles digging into me and I get a rash wherever it falls on me

I used to go to a hair place where they would spray weird "crunchy" hairspray in my hair once finished without even asking me if I wanted it. Luckily, the one I go to now doesn't do that. Other than that, I don't like all the hair that gets in my clothes and sheds all over following a haircut. I have to shower first thing after arriving home. Other than that, I'm actually okay with having haircuts - what I really don't like is when my bangs are so long that they hang in my eyes. It gets to where I feel like a horse, tossing my head trying to clear my vision. NEIGH!

I dislike being asked how i want my hair. I've no idea how i want my hair other than "not in my eyes".
I hate the cape around my neck because it always feels too tight.
And as other people have said, the feeling of cold air on my ears is bothersome.

Several years ago i missed a hair appointment and once it was long enough to tie back i saw no need to go back ever again. As a guy with a ponytail, i am constantly told that i need to get a haircut to get a date.

I've lost a lot of my physical discomforts as I've gotten older (I used to cut the tags off all my shirts, didn't like sock seams, etc.). The one thing I still can't stand is when my bangs touch my eyebrows. Drives me crazy. Even if I'm at work, I'll get the office scissors out and head for the bathroom!

this, so much this.
my neck is very sensitive to pressure and sometimes i have to put 2 fingers between my neck and the cape to stop feeling choked.
and the freshly cut hairs on my neck are just a pain.

also i have extremely thick heavy hair and every time i go, i have to get it "thinned" or else it looks like a freaking helmet.
maybe i should just cut it all off.
